New Jersey looking to get rolling again this week.

Second City vs NJ After a back and forth 1st period Kyle Turris got New Jersey on the board with his second goal of the season. He was assisted by Alex Chaisson and Tommy Wingels. It was Chiasson’s big slap shot that Turris tipped into a open net. After one the Second City Chiefs trail 1-0. It wasn’t long before the Grizzlies struck starting the second period off with a big shot from Dustin Byfuglien who now has 5 goals on the season. Ryan Johansen and Shea Weber got the helpers. New Jersey has 2-0 lead thru 2nd period. Just like earlier in the game New Jersey gets quickly on the board, in the third period extending the lead to 3-0 with a goal from Valtteri Filppula who now has his second goal of the season. John Tavares opened the scoring for second City late in the third. The game ends 3-1 New Jersey with a stellar performance by Cory Schneider. Schneider made 29 saves on 30 shots and improved his record to 7-2-1 Three Stars |

Bathgate vs NJ The sesaw was going on early between these to rivals. New Jersey got on the board 1st with a goal from Henrik Sedin at 14:57. He was assisted by Booby Ryan and Dustin Byfuglien. Before they could settle in Jamie Benn added and goal and brought the game even, his 5th on the season assisted by John Kilngberg. After 1 period New Jersey and Bathgate are tied. Bathgate will start the second still on a 5-3 powerplay. After killing the penalty the Grizzlies drew a penalty on Travis Zajac but as that penalty came to a end Victor Hedman was able to send a rocket passed Pekka Rinne to give NJ the lead back at 2-1. New Jersey was able to draw a 5-3 powerplay of their own which ended up starting a disaster for Bathgate. New Jersey was able to get a goal from Sedin, his 2nd of the game and still have a power play going. Sedin was assisted by Byfuglien and Kyle Okposo. After 2 periods New Jersey 2 and Bathgate 0. The crowd roars and the hats fly Sedin nets his third of the night and gives New Jersey the commanding lead 4-1 in the third. Bathgate answered quickly with a deflection goal past Keith Kinkaid. Zegmus Girgensons got his 2nd of the year in the process. Well don’t count Bathgate out just yet, with a minute left Patrick Kane was able to get on the board and close the gap to just 1. Viktor Arvidsson was able to break the hopes with a empty netter just a short time after. Final Score 5-3 New Jersey Three Stars |

The Ripon Rockets come to town to face Hampton in the Blizzard’s only home game of the week. The Rockets come in with a 6-6 record but on a 3-game win streak while Hampton (6-3-3) looks to duplicate a 6-1 win over Corktown in its last game.

| Game #1: | The game turned out to be extremely tightly and evenly played, but special teams made the difference in what turned into a surprisingly lopsided final score. The teams exchanged a frenzy of shots in the early going until Brenden Dillon tried to turn Tomas Hertl into a kabob midway through the first period and was awarded with a double-minor for highsticking for his efforts. The Blizzard capitalized on the kabob-ing with Aaron Ekblad slamming a shot from the point stickside past Louis Domingue to give Hampton a 1-0 power play lead. Things stayed that way until about 8 minutes into the 2nd period when Carey Price, recently called up in place of struggling Antti Raanta, forgot where his net was and was caught badly out of position on a shot by Taylor Hall that was tipped in by Tyler Tiffoli to even things up 1-1. Hampton regained the lead for Price a minute later on a slapshot through a crowd by Paul Stasny that somehow managed to snake its way through without hitting anyone (much to Domingue’s surprise). A lazy hooking penalty on Tiffoli 17 seconds into the 3rd period killed the Rockets comeback hopes as Filip Forsberg drilled home a cross-ice pass just 14 seconds later as part of the suddenly rejuvenated Hampton power play. Ripon’s Boone Jenner was robbed of the puck at centre ice by Jannik Hansen a minute later which triggered a 3-on-1 rush that ended with Tyler Myers blasting home his first goal of the year on a shot from the top of the faceoff circle to make it 4-1. With Forsberg off for tripping and the Rockets’ power play pressing, Ripon defenceman Darnell Nurse was stripped of the puck at the Hampton blueline and hauled down Frans Nielsen as the Dane streaked by him on a potential breakaway. Nielsen was awarded a penalty shot and as the designated team king of the penalty shot made no mistake deking out Domingue and firing a wrist shot past him for what turned out to be a final 5-1 game. Hampton goalie Carey Price was awarded for stopping 31 of 32 shots with a 3rd star (bittersweet revenge on the Dave Koch Sports people for sticking him with a 6.9 goalie grade. | Game #2: | Two power play goals 22 seconds apart with just over 2 minutes to play broke a tie wide open and gave Chicago a 4-2 win over Hampton. Hampton’s downfall started with Paul Stasny getting called for interference with 3:39 remaining in regulation and then 26 seconds later he was joined in the box by Mikael Backlund. The duo watched as first Chris Smith and then Colton Parayko beat Carey Price to lift the Cosa Nostra to victory. Hampton opened the scoring at 5:48 of the first on a nifty move by Andre Burakovsky but that lead evaporated five minutes later while Chicago was short-handed when Bo Horvat beat Price low to the stick side to make it 1-1 at the end of the 1st period. Hampton went into the 2nd period with a vengeance hitting everything that moved and getting lots of shots, but the Chicago defence kept them from getting much in the way of quality scoring chances. Bastards. Nino Niederreiter gave Chicago the go-ahead goal at 5:50 of the 2nd period which quieted the Hampton offence somewhat until a flurry in the 3rd period when a slapshot from point blank range beat Cosa Nostra keeper Petr Mrazek. Koivu opens the scoring in the first with his third of the season on just the second Indiana shot of the game. Later in the first the Chiefs get a pair of power play chances almost back to back and they are able to convert on the second one with Jimmy Hayes lighting the lamp from Letang and Laich to tie it at one. |
| Game #2: | Chiefs travel to Lansing to take on the Caps. A surprising first goal as defenseman John Moore is given a penalty shot off a 2-on-1 rush, and he cashes it in to give Second City the early lead. Chiefs add on shortly after as Tavares with a nifty deflection off a Panarin shot makes it 2-0. Seventh goal of the year for the Chiefs captain. Caps on the board as Rakell beats Anderson with the slap shot to make it 2-1 and that’s where it stands after the first. Caps tie it up early in the second after a failed 3-on-2 rush for Second City results in a chance on the other end. Ward finds the twine for the fourth time and its 2-2. The dominance continues for Lansing as Barrie scores from the point to give the home team a 3-2 lead as we head to the second intermission. Lansing adds a fourth goal early in the third by some Russian guy with a name too long to type. Second City gets one back with 8:46 to go as Tavares scores again from Palmieri and Letang. 4-3 Lansing. Then with 4:34 to go its the Chiefs captain again in front of the net catching Dubnyk out of position. Hat trick for Tavares ties it at four! But its all for not as the Caps score with under a minute to go and hang on for the win. Second City’s road woes continue as they remain winless away from home. |

Jagr- If Jagr was playing this game it would have been pure frustration as the Mullets had 18 minutes of Power Play action where they scored 1 goal during that time. Shots were 38-14 in favor of Jagr, but Johnson was a brick wall for Corktown in the 3-2 victory. Stamkos had #7 for the Mullets and Tarasenko scored his 4th as he begins to heat up. Two home games this week against Columbus and Wausau. A few minor line up changes. McNabb stays active replace Ollie Maatta and some swaps on the lines. James Reimer will replace Korpisalo for the Wausau game. Reimer will likely stay on the active roster for the time being. |

Vs Columbus Barkov opens the scoring with a PP goal his 6th of the season. Kucherov ties it at 1-1. Saad nets his 8th of the year to push the Nor’Westers up 2-1. Brent “The Beard” Burns ties it at 2-2. Barkov scores his 2nd PP goal of the game to push Thunder Bay back in front 3-2. Brayden McNabb in only his second game scores his 1st of the year to get a 2 goal lead. Veteran Jerome Iginla closes it down to 4-3 but Thunder Bay holds on for their 7th win.

Vs Wausau Last week player of the week Tomas Tatar scores his 6th to give the Nor’Westers a 1-0 lead. Gallagher push it to 2-0 and Saad to 3-0 on his 9th goal of the season. Wausau awakens with a goal by Fisher, but Gallagher’s 2nd of the game pushes the Thunder Bay lead back to 4-1. Perry scores late but Thunder Bay stands strong to close out a 4-2 win.

Bathgate hosts the top 2 teams in the league this week – Long Beach and Indiana. Not much hope is seen for a team that has given up 1.5 goals for every 1 they score, still they show up at Madison Round Garden and delight the fans (at least we hope they’re still happy. NOTE – In the first game – Nov 7 vs. Long Beach a pretty rare feat occurs. |
| Game #1: | November 7 – hosting Long Beach the Rangers dig in. 1st period goes by with no scores. Bathgate failed on 3 power plays, Long Beach failed on 1. Then at the 47 second mark of the 2nd period Fabbri deflects a Bozak shot for a goal (Bozak and Yandle assist) to make it 1-0. At 3:33 the Rangers tie it when Fayne slips one in (assisted by Kane and Miller). Then the fun starts. At 18:29 Klingberg is called for hooking and Leddy is awarded a PENALTY SHOT – Rinne save. 2nd period ends with the score 1-1 and local fans are ecstatic. At 7:05 in the 3rd after the Rangers work the puck up ice, Kane shots and scores (from Karlsson and Benn). Then at 13:16 Brodie of Long Beach is called for slashing – and Karlsson is awarded a PENALTY SHOT – his shot is saved by Anderson. But wait – at 17:30, Carlson of Long Beach is called for hooking against Horcoff – and Horcoff is awarded a PENALTY SHOT – and he scores! That wrapped up the scoring as Bathgate pulls the stunner and wins 3-1. Rinne makes 30 saves (and gets Star #2)! Star 1 – Kane 1 G, 2 Pts Star 2 – Rinne 30 saves Star 3 – Horcoff 1 GBut 3 PENALTY SHOTS in the game! |
| Game #2: | Well, the next home game found Indiana – losers of 1 game at the time. They may not score a lot, but they certainly don’t give up much of anything – barely over 1.5 goals a game. They quickly take the lead 1-0 when Williams put one in the net at 3:17 (assisted by Koivu and Gryba). They add another at 19:19 – hate those last minute goals. Doughty (assisted by Krejci and Raffl) to make it 2-0 at the end of 1. Both goals even strength. Near the end of the 2nd period, Indiana bumps the lead to 3-0 when the take advantage of a tripping penalty to Fayne. Goal scored by Doughty (his 2nd of the game), assisted by Jagr and Koivu. Rangers want to get in the game and Russell gets his 1st of they at the 1:19 mark of period 3 (assisted by Fayne and Zajac). But Indiana counters with their 4th goal 8 minutes later when Jagr shows he’s not too old slamming one in the net (assisted by Davidson and van Riemsdyk). Tierney makes it look a little more respectable scoring at the 18:43 mark (assisted by Karlsson and McCann making it 4-2 Indiana and that the final.Indiana’s defense controlled the game blocking 17 shots. Wausau faces the first place California Regulators. And the second place Hampton Blizzard. Two tough opponents for the Lumberjacks. In a roster move the Lumberjacks deactivate Matthew Dunba-D and activated Chris Tanev-D. Tanev was battling a lower body injury and is now healthy.

California shuts out the lumberjacks 2-0. Lumberjack couldn’t get anything going against Holtby. Holtby had had 38 saves. Goals by Gaudreau and Silverberg were more than enough to beat the Lumberjacks.

Wausau shuts out Hampton 2-0. Halak had 29 saves. Goals by Giroux and Keith lead the Lumberjacks to the win.

Long Beach hosts Jagr & Corktown

| Game #1: |
Long Beach (9-3) hosts Jagr (8-4). Fabbri opened the scoring with a PP goal with 4 ½ minutes to go in the first to give Long Beach a lead. :30 later, Vlasic tied the game. Jagr took a 2-1 lead in the 2d on a Strahlman goal. They stretched it to 3-1 when Wilson tipped in a Cole shot 5 minutes into the period. Long Beach got a goal back when Leddy scored on a 5 on 3 situation with 9 minutes to go in the second. With 7 ½ minutes to go in the game Long Beach had a 5 on 3 again but this time Jagr killed it. Bishop stood tall the rest of the way and Jagr won 3-2.

Long Beach (9-4) hosts Corktown (4-8). Long Beach jumped to an early lead when Leddy scored 2 minutes into the game. Corktown tied it on a PP goal by Neal with 7 minutes left in the period. After back and forth action for the first half of the second period, Soderberg tipped in a shot to give Long Beach a 2-1 lead. Long Beach took a 3-1 lead a minute later but Corktown tied it on goals by Kessler and Tarasenko (PP). Corktown took their first lead of the game on a Miller goal 5 minutes into the third. They added a goal on Tarashenko’s 2nd of the game. That was the end of the scoring as Corktown won 5-3.

Minneapolis wins their second game in a row, this time in dominant fashion over the Cosa Nostra.Chicago opened the scoring on the first shot of the game taking a 1-0 lead just 15 seconds in, but Minneapolis kept the heat on and had a 2-1 lead by the end of the 1st. After a scoreless 2nd period, Chicago tied it midway through the 3rd.
