Bathgate Rangers
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Bathgate with 1 lone home game this week hosts Bucks County
GAME #1: BUCKS COUNTY BOBCATS@ BATHGATE RANGERS The Rangers play a surprising defensive game for a change and hold the Bobcats to 6 scoring chances and 22 SOGS for the game – with only 5 shots in the 1st period. Rangers had plenty of extra scoring chances – 5 power plays, but the Bobcats stopped all 5.

Needless to say however, the Rangers do manage to pose some decent offense (35 SOGS in the game) and 55% faceoff wins and they manager to beat Anderson twice in the 1st period. Kreider wakes up the crowd 1:50 into the game and then Tavares scores less than 3 minutes later. 2nd period is scoreless but Lee finds the back of the net early in the 3rd and the Rangers grab a 3-0 lead that Reimer makes stand as he records his 1st shutout of the season. 3-0 Rangers is the final.

STARS (all BGR)
1. Reimer 22 saves
2. Lee 1 goal
3. Kreider 1 goal (GWG)

Andersen stops 32 shots for Bucks County.

WEEKLY SUMMARY: A Meat Loaf series.
LA Great Danes
WEEKLY PREVIEW: A short 2-game week with the lone home game versus the Grosse Pointe Griffins. Last week was LA’s worst week of the season, gaining only 3 of 8 points with the two regulation losses by 3 goals each. Still a solid lead in the Pacific, but with 3 of 4 games next week on the road, no time to slump.
GAME #1: GROSSE POINTE GRIFFINS@ LA GREAT DANES It’s a rough start for Griffins goalie Ilya Samsonov as he gives up 3 goals on the first 5 shots, including a Nylander goal 16 seconds in, followed by 4th line goals from Benn and Staal. The Danes lead 3-0 after one.

In the second, LA has a PPG disallowed, and with only one minute left in the second Sebastian Aho scores a PPG for Grosse Pointe, and LA’s lead shrinks to 3-1 heading to the third.

In the third, goals by Girard and Ehlers extend LA’s lead to 5-1, and Raymond closes out the scoring for the Griffins to make it a 5-2 final.

Jordan Staal did not make it as one of the 3 stars, but he was a force, winning 17 of 20 faceoffs and netting the game winning goal.

WEEKLY SUMMARY: With a road win over Chicago in the bank, the Great Danes finish week 11 with 2 wins in their 2 games.

The best news was Anton Forsberg ending a streak of giving up 3+ goals in 9 straight games before the 5-2 win versus Grosse Pointe. He still sports a 12-3-2 record for the year, backing up all-world goalie Igor Shesterkin.

But the Danes do give up a PPG in only 2 chances by Grosse Pointe, and the PK unit is now middle of the pack in the league after starting the year at a 90%+ kill rate. Lots of PK work expected at practice this week.

Charlotte Buzzards
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Charlotte (20-18-5) will need some bounces of the puck in the second half in its bid for the playoffs, but as of now it is on the outside looking in in the East, with five teams ahead of it in the expanded wild-card standings: this despite that entering this week Charlotte was tied for third atop the power rankings for the entire league. The Buzzards, still unsure if they may be buyers or sellers as the season continues, hosted just one home game this week versus a California Regulators squad it is tied with in those power rankings (50.1 each).
GAME #1: CALIFORNIA REGULATORS@ CHARLOTTE BUZZARDS The Regulators (22-16-5), also fighting for a playoff spot, entered this matchup with a better record than Charlotte but both teams came in evenly matched and the stats in this one bore bear that out.

California suffered a setback early. Charlotte’s Tyler Myers got cited with an undisciplined hooking penalty 48 seconds in (he’d also be cited for a 10-minute misconduct for staying on the ice), but the Regulators on the power play, got knocked off the puck, leading to an Alex Iafallo breakaway; he moved it to his backhand and beat Linus Ullmark just two minutes in to provide the Buzzards the early 1-0 lead.

California’s Cam Atkinson responded with an even strength goal just two minutes later to knot things up at 1-1. But the Buzzards answered with two goals, one midway through the first from Alex Ovechkin, then a power play goal from Ryan Johansen just over a minute into the second to put the home squad ahead 3-1.
Ullmark (28 saves) and Charlotte netminder Ilya Sorkin (30 saves) turned in stellar goaltending for the rest of the contest. Charlotte failed to score again but the Regulators could only find the net one more time, with 11 seconds left in regulation on an extra-man slapshot goal from Nick Schmaltz. The Regulators won the ensuing faceoff to give the Buzzards a real scare but could not get a shot off for the tie, as Charlotte prevailed 3-2.

Three stars (all Charlotte):
1. Star 1: Ovechkin 1 G, 2 Pts
2. Star 2: Johansen 1 G, 2 Pts
3. Star 3: Iafallo, 1 G

Notable: This game lived up to its billing as an evenly-matched affair; California outshot the Buzzards narrowly, 32-31, while the Buzzards won one more faceoff (29-28). Time of attack (Charlotte with 3:58 and California at 3:50 was virtually even).

WEEKLY SUMMARY: The Buzzards, starts its goalie ace in the hole, Sorokin, who is able to save 30 in the much-needed Charlotte win at home. Charlotte has struggled mightily on the road, however, and desperately could use at least one win in the two games away from its building this week (three games above .500 will apparently not be enough for the playoffs in this cutthroat East). With his goal, Johansen (23 goals entering the week) continues a suprisingly torrid season alongside Ovechin and Mitch Marner on Charlotte’s top line and he is on a 40-plus goal pace – no one but no one saw that coming!
Gilbert Sharks
WEEKLY PREVIEW: 3 home games for Gilbert this week
GAME #1: PORTLAND STORM@ GILBERT SHARKS Rickard Rakell has a hat trick and that is more than enough for Jake Oettinger who makes 30 saves for Portland in a 4-0 shutout
GAME #2: BATHGATE RANGERS@ GILBERT SHARKS Stamkos gets the Game-winner in 3-2 OT win for Gilbert
GAME #3: FLIN FLON BOMBERS@ GILBERT SHARKS Tarasensko has two goals in this one and Flin Flon scores 3 times in the 3rd period to win 4-1
WEEKLY SUMMARY: Disappointing week for Gilbert, need to beat these good teams if we want to succeed in the playoffs
Alamo Defenders
WEEKLY PREVIEW: The Defenders play three home games this week vs. Jagr, Bathgate, and Chicago.
GAME #1: JAGR MULLETS@ ALAMO DEFENDERS The Defenders slow down the high flying Mullets. No goals in the 1st two periods. Then, in the 3rd, Draisaitl scores his 42nd goal. The Mullets score with 52 seconds to go on a Matthews goal.

In OT, Alamo with 8 shots to 1, but don’t score.

In the shootout, both Draisaitl and Crosby score and the Mullets are stoned by Quick.

Alamo 2 Jagr 1

1-Markstrom
2-Quick
3-Draisaitl

GAME #2: BATHGATE RANGERS@ ALAMO DEFENDERS Alamo wins this one pretty easily. Some of the players that normally don’t score, do. Nyquist scores 2. Stastny scores his 6th. Draisaitl adds a goal. Kreider scores for the Rangers.

Alamo 4 Bathgate 1

1-Nyquist
2-Draisaitl
3-Lehner

GAME #3: CHICAGO COSA NOSTRA@ ALAMO DEFENDERS Quick with a 26 shot shutout. Couture, Jarnkrok, and Draisaitl all score for Alamo.

Alamo 3 Chicago 0

1-Quick
2-Draisaitl
3-Couture

WEEKLY SUMMARY: Alamo sweeps its home games.
Brentwood Bandits
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Two home games
GAME #1: TOLEDO WALLEYE@ BRENTWOOD BANDITS Toledo spanks Brentwood 5-1.
GAME #2: CINCINNATI INFERNO@ BRENTWOOD BANDITS Cincinnati scores THREE GOALS in 38 seconds!!! Two EN goals and then one at 19:59 where I guess Comrie had his head up his ass.
WEEKLY SUMMARY: Too frustrated to even say anything.
Flin Flon Bombers
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Brentwood comes to town
GAME #1: BRENTWOOD BANDITS@ FLIN FLON BOMBERS The only goal in the first period was from Joel Eriksson Ek as he redirects a shot from Kevin Fiala.Van Riemsdyk beat Casey DeSmith at the 6:42 mark of the second period but Anthony Duclair strikes back for the Bombers. Kevin Fiala increases the lead for the Bombers late in the third and the Bandits pull Vasilevskiy and Danton Heinin beats DeSmith to cut it down to 3-2…….mad rush ensues but DeSmith keeps the Bandits at bay 3-2 Bombers
WEEKLY SUMMARY: 1 for 1
Grosse Pointe Griffins
WEEKLY PREVIEW: A pair of games against California and Portland
GAME #1: CALIFORNIA REGULATORS@ GROSSE POINTE GRIFFINS The Regulators and Griffins were even at two goals apiece after the first period. But California dominated the rest of the way, scoring 3 unanswered, including a pair by Huberdeau, to win 5-2. California had 31 scoring chances to a paltry 10 by Grosse Pointe.
GAME #2: PORTLAND STORM@ GROSSE POINTE GRIFFINS The Griffins fired 41 shots at Braden Holtby, but only 2 got past him, as the Storm hung on for a 3-2 victory. Portland was paced by a pair from Jordan Eberle.
WEEKLY SUMMARY: Two defeats puts Grosse Pointe farther behind in their quest for a post-season berth.
Toledo Walleye
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Some good mid level talent in the Glass City this week with Brentwood (21-16-4), Cincinnati (26-18-0) and Charlotte (20-19-5) all trying to figure out if they are contenders or pretenders this season, along with the host team Toledo (25-18-2).
GAME #1: BRENTWOOD BANDITS@ TOLEDO WALLEYE The goalies are definitely up for this game as Vasilevskiy stops 13, Demko stops 7, and we are scoreless headed to the 2nd period.

Offenses figured out something at break. Toledo cashes in twice on goals from Mangiapne and Kucherov. Then the Bandits even it up on goals from Terry and Okposo. A last gasp blast from Dobson puts the Walleye up 3-2 with 5 seconds on the clock. Off to period 3

Brentwood controls play most of the 3rd with 23 SOG. But its Toledo with the first goal of the period, late, as Arvidsson gives the Walleye an insurance tally. Brentwood pulls the goalie and hammers Demko for a long time. Guentzel pulls the team within 1 with 2 minutes to go, but Demko puts out a hero effort to save the game for the home team. 4-3 Toledo at the end.

1st star – Mangiapane 1G 2pts
2nd – Kucherov 1G
3rd – Dobson 1G

GAME #2: CINCINNATI INFERNO@ TOLEDO WALLEYE Goalies dominate the first period, stopping all shots, 14 by Toledo and 7 by Cinci. 0-0 after 1.

Cracks in the armor this period. Both teams get one in. Trochek for Toledo and Nichushkin for Cincinnati. 1-1 as we head to what should be a tense 3rd.

Inferno jump on top early in the 3rd with goals from Pesce and Forsberg. A Mangiapane goal midway pulls the home team within 1. Late in the period Dube scores on a pending penalty by Kadri for insurance. A late Kucherov goal…. too little very late. Inferno escape with a 4-3 win.

1st star – Forsberg 1G 2pts
2nd = Talbot 46 saves
3rd – Pesce 1G

GAME #3: CHARLOTTE BUZZARDS@ TOLEDO WALLEYE Toledo with an abnormally early goal in this one, Robertson just 69 seconds into the game. Mid period Arvidsson adds one to make it 2-0. A couple minutes later, Coleman pulls the Buzzzzzzards to within 1. Period ends 2-1 Toledo.

In what ends up as a very short clean boxscore, each time kills off only one penalty the rest of the game. The goalies stop all shots, and the 2-1 score does not change. Have not seen this kind of game all seasons. Toledo wins 2-1.

1st star – Robertson 1G
2nd – Arvidsson 1G
3rd – Demko 25 saves

WEEKLY SUMMARY: Well, 4 teams all roughly performing the same play three games, all one-goal decisions. Toledo happy to have pulled off 2 wins a continue floating just a little above mediocre as we figure out how to integrate Kadri into the top 2 lines.
Cincinnati Inferno
WEEKLY PREVIEW: The Cincinnati Inferno host a pair of home games this week as Bucks County and California come to The Incinerator.
GAME #1: BUCKS COUNTY BOBCATS@ CINCINNATI INFERNO Cincinnati 5, Bucks County 4
GAME #2: CALIFORNIA REGULATORS@ CINCINNATI INFERNO Cincinnati 5, California 2
WEEKLY SUMMARY: Cincinnati takes all four home points this week.
Portland Storm
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Portland hosts Chicago and Pittsburgh
GAME #1: CHICAGO COSA NOSTRA@ PORTLAND STORM Portland jumps out to a quick lead when Schultz (2) finds the back of the net on a power play 1:02 into the game and Eberle (11) adds another at the 12:52 mark. Chicgao responds on their own power play when Debrincat (21) scores

After a scoreless 2nd period Debrincat (22) gets a shortie 59 seconds into the period to tie the game and Burakovsky (15) gives Cosa Nostra their first lead of the game with 8:37 remaining. Portland pulls their goalie late in the game and capitalizes on the man advantage when Olofsson (14) ties the game with 1:28 remaining

With the game heading into overtime Debrincat (23) gets a hat trick and sends the Storm crowd home in sorrow as Chicago wins 4-3

GAME #2: PITTSBURGH MINERS@ PORTLAND STORM After a scoreless 1st period Pittsburgh’s Larsson (5) finally gets the first goal of the game with 1:08 remaning in the 2nd period. Portland’s Rakell (9) evens the game with 5:19 remaining.

Neither team was able to score in overtime and we head to a shootout – Laine missed for Pittsburgh and Jarvis scored for Portland. After a miss by Norris, Eberle sent the Portland crowd home in a frenzy as he beats Bobrovsky for the win

Both goalies wee outstanding as Bobrovsky saves 45 shots and Oettinger saves 36

WEEKLY SUMMARY: Portland manages to pick up 3 crucial points as they lose in OT against Chicago and gets a shootout win against Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh Miners
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Can there Miners continue success after trading Kadri
GAME #1: GROSSE POINTE GRIFFINS@ PITTSBURGH MINERS Miners win 4-3
GAME #2: CHARLOTTE BUZZARDS@ PITTSBURGH MINERS Miners blow a 3-0 lead and end up loosing in a shootout 4-3.
WEEKLY SUMMARY: 3/4 points not bad.
