They face Brentwood in a match that will be a battle for basement supremacy – or trying to avoid it (Brentwood) or work their way out of it (Bathgate). Bathgate has 2 of the top three scores in the league (Kane and Benn) but they also have the worst defense. Brentwood has Sid the Kid (not so much a Kid anymore, but he’s still Crosby)<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n \n| Game #1:<\/th>\n | Wow – Rangers come home and light up the boards early. 18 seconds into the game and Ekman-Larsson is called for interference. Karlsson makes the Bandits pay when he redirects Kane’s shot into the net (Benn also an assist) for a quick 1-0 lead (35 seconds into the game).Ekman-Larsson begins his atonement however when he sets up Parenteau at the 10:30 mark (Crosby also assists on the goal). Then Marleau slips one past Rinne to close out the opening period scoring with Brentwood on top 2-1.<\/p>\n A minute into period 2 Phaneuf is called for slashing. This negates the Bandits power play and sets up the Rangers for a 43 second power play. They respond as Kane connects from Nesterov and Benn to tie the score. Kane then adds a 2nd goal post the midway point as he redirects a Benn shot past the diving Fleury. BUT Ekman-Larsson ties it back up at 3-3 26 seconds later on the 1st of his 2 goals in the game – both of which are set up by the duo of Niederreiter and Marleau.<\/p>\n The 2nd Ekman-Larsson goal comes 34 seconds into the 3rd period – an even strength goal, but one that is scored on a delayed penalty. Bandits now up 4-3 but the Rangers keep pressing and Fayne is able to squirt one past Fluery to tie the game midway through the period.<\/p>\n BUT – remember that Crosby guy – well he comes through with a minute and a half left to put the game winner past Rinne who’s all sprawled out wondering what’s been going on this year.<\/p>\n Brentwood outshots the Rangers 38-25 but had fewer scoring chances, but they were 50% on those chances.

Lundqvist gets a break tonight with Neuvirth starting in goal for the Deep Freeze.<\/p>\n The game gets off to a slow start with lots of action but very little offense as the teams combined for only 6 shots on goal in the first 10 minutes (5 for Minneapolis), including a Wausau powerplay that generated no shots. Wausau finally made it count when they did get control in the offensive zone with a flurry of shots that Neuvirth couldn’t control,
\nand eventually Moulson (2) banged one home on the 3rd rebound. With under 2 minutes left in the first period, Sharp gets loose on a breakaway for Minneapolis, but Howard flashes the leather and shuts him down. The period ends with Wausau leading 1-0 despite being outshot 10-6 and trailing in chances 7-1.<\/p>\n The second period featured two powerplays for Wausau but no goals for either team as Wausau outshot Minneapolis 10-5.<\/p>\n The third period opens with a hooking penalty on Sharp which angers Deep Freeze coach Larry Murphy. He knows that his team can’t win this game playing shorthanded. Fortunately his team was able to respond by killing off the penalty, and Wausau took one of their own shortly thereafter. With Brown in the box for elbowing and the puck deep in the Lumberjacks zone, Doan fed it to the point for Seidenberg, who ripped a shot that Brassard (15) was able to redirect past Howard to tie the game at 1. Later in the third with Minneapolis still controlling play in the Wausau zone, Howard gave up a juicy rebound and Doan was able to set up Huberdeau (4) to give Minneapolis the 2-1 lead with 7:07 remaining. Minneapolis apparently doesn’t like having the lead though, as Seidenberg takes a hooking penalty right off the ensueing faceoff, but Neuvirth stood tall and stopped all 5 Wausau shots on the powerplay.<\/p>\n With under 4 minutes to play, Wausau catches a break when Howard fed the puck up ice to Kopitar who set up Perry (19) for a blast from the point that beat Neuvirth to tie the game at 2. The lead would not last long though, as Seidenberg (3) redeemed himself for the earlier penalty with a blast of his own to give Minneapolis the 3-2 lead with under 1 minute left. After killing off a hooking penalty on Brassard, Minneapolis would manage to extend the lead once again. This time, Datsyuk (7) redirected Schmidt’s shot from the point to make it 3-0 for the Deep Freeze. 5
\nminutes later, a 3-on-2 chance for the Deep Freeze resulted in a penalty shot for Pesce, but Pesce rang it off the post. Minneapolis would pad the lead again with under 5 minutes left to play in the second period with another odd-man rush when Getslaf fed Sharp (10). Minneapolis leads 4-0 at the end of the second.<\/p>\n The third period would be mostly uneventful, and Minneapolis holds on win 4-0 with all 4 goals coming from the top 2 lines. It’s 1-0 Minneapolis barely 1 minute into the game. Less than 30 seconds later, Huberdeau set up Brassard (16) for a one-timer in the slot that beat Rask on the glove side to make it 2-0 for the Deep Freeze. Later in the period, the Chiefs would be gifted with back to back powerplays, but King Henrik stood on his head to keep the score at 2-0. Minneapolis leads despite being outshot 17-11 in the period.<\/p>\n Four minutes into the second period, Panarin (15) would get Second City on the board. Minneapolis would continue to struggle to get anything going, and Hayes (9) would tip a shot from Benn past Lundqvist to tie the game at 2 with 11:49 remaining in the second period. Only 2 minutes later, Minneapolis would stop the bleeding and regain the the lead on a goal from the most unlikely of sources, Andre Markov (1) scored his first of the year. The teams would trade chances for the rest of the period, but neither would score again, and Minneapolis leads 3-2 heading into the third period.<\/p>\n Second City would come out firing and manage to tie the game with 15:38 remaining on a tic-tac-toe play that ended with Palmieri (14) beating Lundqvist. Second City has 7 shots on goal in the first 4:22 of the third period. Coach Larry Murphy knows that his Deep Freeze have got to do something if they are going to win this game. Coach’s defensive adjustments didn’t work though, and the Chiefs made it 4-3 with 13:24 remaining. Murphy decides to make another change, and puts Neuvirth in net to finish the game along with some other offensive adjustments. This time the changes paid off, and Getzlaf (8) tied the game for Minneapolis with 8:18 to go. With the offense finally clicking, coach Murphy decides to keep the pressure on and gets rewarded for his confidence. Hoffman (14) gives the Deep Freeze a 5-4 lead with 5:21 left. The Chiefs would
