Minneapolis sends Hampton to its 7th overtime shootout loss 3-2.
\nIt was a very sleepy game from the get-go with both teams managing a total of 12 shots in the scoreless and penalty-less 1st period. The teams showed a bit of life in the 2nd period when Patric Hornqvist beat the snot out of senior citizen Shane Doan and promptly was given the game misconduct for abuse of the elderly.
\nHampton responded by picking up the offensive pace and shelled Minnespolis keeper Henrik Lundqvist with 18 shots but managed to find the back of the net just once on a bullet from the blueline by Tyler Myers who was assisted by Andrew Shaw and Mikael Backlund. Hampton added another goal just 15 seconds into the 3rd on a power play
\nwhen Jamie McGinn tipped Mattias Ekholm’s drive from the point past Lundqvist. It was the 23rd of the year for the overachieving Coyote forward.
\nMinnie drew within one goal five minutes into the period on a rebound off Pavel Datsyuk’s wrist shot that went straight to Mr. Boyle for the easy goal against helpless Antii Raanta. It was Boyle’s 8th of the year. At 13:33 a backbreaking breakway by Hoffman brought the two teams even 2-2. For Hoffman, it was #15 on the year.
\nThe shootout featured some nice sniping by Patrick Sharp and Datsyuk to beat Raanta while Backlund and Andre Burakovsky continued the shootout impotence for Hampton getting blanked and giving Hampton just a single point on the day.
\nF-ing shootouts.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n | \n| Game #2:<\/th>\n | A seesaw battle with streaky offense and defensive lapses on both sides that ended with Aaron Ekblad scoring the game-winning goal at 13 minutes of the 3rd period as Hampton took it 5-4 over Lansing.
\nThe Hampton coaching staff could only assume that Hampton’s defencemen were so preoccupied with trying to score – they accounted for 4 of the 5 Blizzard goals – that they couldn’t do crap to stop the Capitals from peppering Antii Raanta with 36 shots in the game.
\nSimeon Varlamov was equally busy facing 41 shots, but finished on the losing end thanks to what appeared to be contagious crappy defence.
\nScoring for Lansing were Little with two (#9 and #10), Backstrom (17), and Steen (7).

Barely 1 minute into the game, Krug set up Copp (9) in front of the net and Chicago was off to an early 1-0 lead. Minneapolis eventually remembered how to get the puck out of their own end, and managed to tie it up with 12:40 left in the first when Datsyuk fed Eriksson (25) for a
\nhard slap shot from the point that beat Condon on the glove side. The first period would end with the score still tied at 1 and 57 seconds remaining on a powerplay for Chicago.<\/p>\n Minneapolis killed off the rest of that powerplay and then another after Hoffman took 2 minutes for roughing, but Chicago would still strike next. Richards was bumped off the puck while carrying it out of the Deep Freeze zone, creating a 2-1 coming back at Lundqvist. Knonwall got the puck over to Baertschi (8) who put it on the top shelf where mom hides the cookies. Two minutes later with Boyle in the box for holding, Chicago would make it 3-1 with a powerplay goal from Duclair (16). With under 1 minute left in the second period and Minneapolis just wanting to get into the locker room to regroup, Pastrnak (3) got around Bartkowski and extended the Cosa Nostra lead to 4-1.<\/p>\n Minneapolis coach Larry Murphy rips into his team during the intermission for their sloppy defensive play. Four minutes into the third period, the Deep Freeze cut the lead to 2 when Boyle carried the puck all the way up the ice and gave it to Pesce (3) who beat Condon to get Lundqvist the rare goaltender assist. Minneapolis would strike again on their next shot only 52 seconds later when Hoffman (15) got loose in front and beat Condon high on the glove side with 15:07 remaining. Through 15 minutes, a powerplay, and some 4-on-4 time, Minneapolis has mounted 19 shots in the 3rd period but still trails by one. They will get 1 final chance to even the score as Gudas takes a penalty for
\ncross-checking to put Chicago down a man with 1:54 left to play. Minneapolis pulls Lundqvist with about 1 minute left but just can’t get the goal that they needed and Chicago holds on to with 4-3 in a Central division upset. Despite 9 shots on the powerplay, Minneapolis gets nothing to show for it and Indiana strikes again. Read (1) gets his first goal of the year and Indiana leads 2-0 with 12:38 left in the opening period. Indiana would hold onto their lead and go into the first intermission leading 2-0.<\/p>\n The second period gets off to an exciting start as McQuaid and Markov each take 2 minutes for roughing each other up. Minneapolis dominates the play during the 4-on-4 but still comes up with nothing. Pominville (2) would finally get Minneapolis on the board 4 minutes into the period with a one-timer from the slot set up by Huberdeau. One minute later, the Deep Freeze tie the game when Luongo gives up a juicy rebound and Schenn (11) bangs it home. The tie would not last long though, as Jagr (18) gets a rebound of his own and beats Lundqvist to make it 3-2 with 11:42 left in the second. With 2 minutes to go in the period Luongo makes a big save on a shot from Schenn, but gives up another rebound and Sharp (12) made him pay for it again to tie the game at 3. Once again Indiana answered quickly, with Jagr (19) getting his second of the game
\nwith 42 seconds left in the period. In the end, he was brilliant, stopping 25 of 26 shots for Indiana.<\/p>\n CHI took the lead late in the second, but Indy’s Raffl quickly tied it in the 3rd. It looked like we were headed to OT – where the Sycamores go to doe (league leading 9 extra-time losses) – when Bergeron saves the day! Well, I think they had seen enough of Indy getting the bounces…<\/p>\n Indy outshot the Grizzlies 27-12 through 2 periods, out chanced them 13-6, won 60% of the faceoffs, had their top goalie in net..and found themselves down 4-0 after two.
