Chicago has a 2-1 lead after the 1st Period of play and hold that throughout the 2nd Period as well. Entering the 3rd, Chicago scores first and now has a 2 goal lead, with 13 Minutes left to play.<\/p>\n

Brentwood woke up from the Stanley Cup Hangover & tallies 4 unanswered goals the rest of the way & making the kids from Chicago look like a peewee team.<\/p>\n

Gilbert Sharks @ Brentwood Bandits<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\nOpening faceoff… back and force play until 1:04 in when Giordano (1) scores on Gilbert’s first shot of the season to make it 1-0! Vasilevskiy was caught napping. Stanley Cup hangover?<\/p>\n

10 mins later, Brentwood is on the PP when Captain Jon (1) makes ties it 1-1! So good to have him and Kessel together still (and at cheaper!).<\/p>\n

2nd Period
\nTavares scores his 2nd of the game and season on a breakout with Vasilevskiy getting an assist! 2-1 Bandits lead.<\/p>\n

Less than a minute later Panarin (1) ties it up 2-2.<\/p>\n

On their only PP chance of the game, the Sharks capitalize when Yandle fires one from the point to make it a 3-2 Gilbert lead!<\/p>\n

The Sharks have thrown 30 shots on Vasilevskiy so far… he’s getting his workout!<\/p>\n

3rd period. Back and forth. Both teams with 12 shots.<\/p>\n

At 15:09 on the PP, Brodie fires one home from the point to tie it at 3!!<\/p>\n

Vasilevskiy with two game saving saves to send it to OT!<\/p>\n

3:36 into OT Phil Kessel (1) fires a wrister from the faceoff circle and buries it for the Bandit win! 4-3 OT WIN!!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Weekly Summary:<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\nOne home game to raise the banner and we pull it out in OT against a solid Sharks team. Another “rebuilding year” may turn into a competing year. Worked out ok last season! \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n

But looking at Jagr, who got “robbed” last season in the playoffs (no comment lol), I don’t think I can trade enough to compete… but you never know!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Weekly Preview:<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\nRangers are young and energetic. They are a solid group of B players (some on the verge of A players). They should score – but can they keep the biscuit out of their own basket. Two games this week, California and Yellowknife.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
California Regulators @ Bathgate Rangers<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\n9 goals evenly divided up, one team, then the other, and so on. Since there were 9 and it followed a pattern, the team scoring 1st eventually wins it.
\nCalifornia’s Stone got the scoring going 5 minutes in when the Rangers are called and it’s a delayed penalty (penalties hurt the home team) and Stone dekes and slaps, 1-0. Then Rakell (1) scores for Bathgate, then Gaudreau (1) for California, then Ferland for Rangers.
\nPERIOD 2 – Faulk (1) starts the scoring 6 minutes in on a PP. Ferland (2) ties it at 3-3, but Huberdeau (1) gets the Regulators back on top 4-3 with just less than 3 to go in the 2nd. But Giroux (1) reties it at 4-4 less than a minute later.
\nPERIOD 3 -Just under 4 minutes in a Pionk is sent to the sin bin – 4th Rangers penalty. And Stone (2) gets the PP goal – his 2nd of the game and it’s 5-4. Surprisingly with 15 minutes to go, no more scoring occurred. CAL took 43 shots, Rangers 36. California wins 5-4.

Yellowknife Braves @ Bathgate Rangers<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\nRangers decide they need to score more in this game – and they do!!
\nHowever, before we get too excited, Yellowknife started out REAL HOT!
\nPERIOD 1 – Rantanen scores 7 minutes in. Giroux must have been MAD and he gets called for a 5 minute boarding penalty – PBP says Bill Schindel is upset with the call – well they were right, he was(is)!!! Yellowknife takes advantage of the 5 minutes of extra skater with Monahan and Williams picking up PP goals – 3 to ZIP Braves within the 1st 10 minutes. Well ZBad gets 1 back – but Aho scores less than a minute later to regain a 3 goal lead, 4-1 and that’s how the period ends.
\nPERIOD 2 – Aha (not Aho) – the Rangers win a period scoring twice – Ferland and Vrana – to make it 4-3 after 2. We’re creeping up on them!!!
\nPERIOD 3 – Hertl scores 10 minutes in for Bathgate and the game is TIED 4-4! But then Provorov is called for tripping (really ref??) and Rantanen scores a PP goal – 3rd PP goal for the Braves, and it’s 5-4. We don’t like that score anymore than we did in the CAL game, so with less than a minute to go – Georgiev skates off and Hertl quickly nets the tying goal with 41 seconds to play. Game ends 5-5 – well regulation ends 5-5.
\nOT
\nMinute 22 in and Soderberg sends the home town crowd home with droopy faces as he scores to win it for Yellowknife. FINAL 6-5 OT win for the Braves.
\nSTARS
\n1 – YEL Rantanen 2 goals, 1 assist
\n2 – BGR Hertl 2 goals, 1 assist
\n3 – YEL Aho 1 goal, 1 assist
\n95 Shots on goal – 54 for Yellowknife (2 of those in OT). 93 shots attempted by the Braves – 32 of them were blocked! Lots of ice packs after the game.

Charlotte Buzzards @ Guentzel Gunners<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\nOpening Night and a big Goalie match up Price vs Greiss.<\/p>\n

Period 1
\nA clean defensive game until Guenzels own Boychuk get interference and gets the box for 2. A big power play for the Buzzads 5 shots and a lot of time in the zone. I know there was no goal but if I am Buzzards Head coach in thinking we had a really nice two minutes but it hard to get by Greiss. Guenzel Puts another man in the box Watson for 2 and Guenzel was having trouble putting the puck to the Goal. The power play prevails and Charlotte scores Hamilton (1) scored it for his first of the season, Larkin(1) and Pavelski(1) get there first assist of the season. Guenzel not short to respond ties it at 1 with Baertschi(1) with the goal and Watson(1) and Koivu(1) with the assist. Waston out of the box helps his team to cover up his mistake. Charlotte goes to the box with a holding of the stick from Ekman-Larson. A three shot power play but Kane(1) comes up big Goal for Guenzels first lead. It was a pass from Bergeron(1) to Montour(1) who shot for a reflection off Kane. Those are 2 names Guenzel hopes to here a lot this year. Charlotte controlled the half but the Gunners came out up by one. Shots Charlotte 16 Gunners 11<\/p>\n

2nd Period
\nRight off the bat Pavleski(1) got a reflection to tie it at 2. Assist Burns(1) and Hamonic(1). Hamilton(2) puts one in for his second this season to put Charlotte up by one. Assist Lee Tuch. Gunners struggling in the second period but hopefully get to turn it around with a PP Dzingle Interference 2 min. Guenzel didn’t get anything off that PP. Niskanen Slap shot scores his first of the season. Assist Bergeron (2) Dumba (1). Bad play for Guenzel Koivu in the box for high sticking for 4 minutes and this could be another Charlotte turning point to regain the lead. Guenzel kills the first half of it but it was a strong PP but the period ended still 1:44 to go on the PP. They had 9 shots on the PP so far.<\/p>\n

Period 3
\nBeing Charlotte having this period opening PP looks really nice already have 33 shot on the board putting in 1\/11 shots tonight against Guenzel and 1-4 on the PP. With 21 seconds left on the PP Larkin(1) gets the net to put Charlotte up by 1 4-3. Assist Hamilton(1) and Pavelski(2). Guenzel got a 3-1 rush for Koivu but missed wide. When you have 38 shots a lot are going to going as another one did for Charlotte putting them up by 2 5-3. Goal Sissons (1) Assist Hamonic (2) Burns(2). Touch and Hathaway get into a fight both out for 2 minutes still a 5 on 5. Killorn to the box for Charlotte fir 2 minuets for holding. Could be a bug movement for Guenzel. An amazing PP kill only 2 shots Guenzel needs to score it they want back in this. Guenzel open net with 54 seconds left but couldn’t score.<\/p>\n

\nother than 6 shots for Guenzel and that what the coach of the gunners wants to see tonight is shots. Scandella in the box for two minutes Alamo gets the power play. Gunners killed on 3 shots a nice kill what they need for a big turn. A delayed penalty called but no need Baertschi(2) got it. Assist Niskanen (1) Watson (2). Guenzel up by one. Not slot of action In the first Period but it worked 16-13 on shots Guenzel winning the shots and Goals.<\/p>\n

Period 2
\nNot much action until a delay of game on Polak 2 Minutes Guenzel Power Play. Not a huge PP just a couple shots but 80% possession. Another PP for the gunners this time Okposo. Pass all around Pass from Scandella(1) up to the top Dumba(2) clear shot Slapshot redirected by Barbashev(1) for a Goal. A big PP goal to put Guenzel up 2. A nice period For the Guenzel Gunners.<\/p>\n

Period 3
\nStarted off with an Alamo Hooking from McAvoy. One thing I have scene tonight from the Gunners is puck control getting shots off Through 2 periods and at 18:21 they have 29 shots and 61 shot attempts that is what the Gunners want to see and it worked so far. Alamo Killed it with only 4 shots. Guenzel gets the rush Guenzel shot deflected big hit from Alamo and they break free and score. Goal Marchand (1) Assist Wheeler (1), Matheson (1). Alamo another Penalty Slashing by Polak 2 minutes. Alamo In all efforts with a net cleared hits 5 shots one off a post but still doesn’t score.

WEEKLY PREVIEW:<\/span><\/th>\nBig opening week for the Great Danes with 3 home games. The team sent a clear message to its fans at the auction\/draft that we are building for the future – Heiskanen\/Nylander\/Haula\/Fabbro\/Girard are all players we see lots of upside with for next year and beyond. There will be lots of fantasy-type NHL scoreboard watching this season to see who the 2020-21 stars will be for LA.<\/p>\n

But it’s time to play this year and see what this team can do now with the core group we have and some grizzled vets to bridge the gap before the pups are ready to contribute.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

California Regulators @ LA Great Danes<\/span><\/th>\nThe Danes spend 6 of the first 10 minutes short-handed and California completely dominates early. After 10 minutes, SOG are 14-2 CAL with a 31-2 shot attempt advantage! But LA holds the Regulators off with 13 blocks in that time, and of course LA then draws first blood with Mike Hoffman deflecting a shot past Khudobin. But Brock Nelson gets CAL even later in the 1st, and they explode with 3 goals in the 2nd to take a 4-1 lead after 2. LA gets a PPG in the 3rd and press for more with a 14-2 SOG advantage through 13 minutes of P3, but Mark Stone puts the game away with a PPG at 18:24 of the 3rd. A 5-2 victory for California, with Nelson and Stone each with 2 goals.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Bucks County Raccoons @ LA Great Danes<\/span><\/th>\nMcDavid and company come to town, and it’s Tom Wilson who opens the scoring on BCR’s first shot of the game 5 minutes in. McDavid scores a PPG to make it 2-0 after one. LA had 3 odd-man rushes in the first, but Ben Bishop stopped all of them. And Timo Meier made it 3-0 BCR 34 seconds into period 2. No more scoring until a Johansen garbage goal with 34 seconds to go in the game. So a 4-0 win for the Raccoons, with a 40-save shutout by Bishop. LA’s best chances in the game came during a 2nd period power play, where we had 7 scoring chances and 7 SOG in those 2 minutes, and when Jamie Benn hit the post with 5 minutes left. As in the first game, the Danes were inconsistent – holding a 84-43 shot attempt advantage but never really threatened the Raccoons.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Guentzel Gunners @ LA Great Danes<\/span><\/th>\nA good start for LA in this one, as Pietrangelo opens the scoring 1:02 in, and Jamie Benn makes it 2-0 at 13:58. In between those goals, LA goes 0-2 on the PP, and shortly after Benn’s goal, Jake Guentzel comes in on a breakaway and is pulled down – PENALTY SHOT…. and GOAL. A few minutes after that Wagner and Guentzel again score for the Gunners and LA trails 3-2 after one. It was then a hat trick of sorts for Saku Maenalainen of the Gunners as he takes his third straight minor penalty early in the 2nd, and Teravainen scores on the PP to tie the game at 3. Mainalainen then gets on the score sheet again – with a GOAL on a breakaway – and Guentzel regains the lead 4-3 heading into the 3rd. 2 PPG’s by the Gunners in the 3rd put the game away. LA scores late, but Guentzel comes away with a 6-4 win.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

But then the wheels come off.<\/p>\n

Hertl almost gets a natural hat trick – scoring at 5:10, 8:10 (PP), and 15:24 (PP). Ferland ruined the natty by scoring at 13:14.<\/p>\n

Down 4-1, the Mullets get a goal by Elias Lindholm at 19:43 against Halak to get back in the game.<\/p>\n

Radulov pots one at 1:59 of the 2nd to make it 4-3, then Zibanejad puts the biscuit in to reclaim the 2 goal lead. But if nothing else, Jagr can score – and they tie it up with goals by Letang and Matthews.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, McCann scores his 1st of the young season at 10:22 of the 3rd, and Halak holds on as the Rangers win it 6-5.<\/p>\n

John Gibson, the Secret Agent Man of the draft, does not acquit himself very well, surrendering 6 goals against 27 saves. We hope he enjoys pine, as he’ll be sitting on the bench for awhile.<\/p>\n

But then BCR scores 3 unanswered goals by Meier, Wilson, and Hyman (sounds like a shady law firm) to stun the home crowd.<\/p>\n

Matthew Tkachuk scores at 13:20 of the 3rd to knot it up at 3-3 – but Brossoit gets beaten by Kevin Hayes on the PP at 16:37 to make it 4-3 bad guys.<\/p>\n

Bishop makes it check mate as the Mullets can’t score with the extra attacker – and just like that the Mullets drop their opening two games. You know it’s bad when the home scorer awards the 3 stars to Meier, Wilson, and Hyman – he must have to launder some funds or something.<\/p>\n

Jagr Mullets @ Charlotte Buzzards<\/span><\/th>\nWithin the first nine minutes of this brand new season, the Mullets capitalize big time on a five minute power play to score all three of its goals — one from defenseman Mattias Ekholm, followed by tallies from wingers Matthew Tkachuk and Alexander Radulov, powering Jagr to a 3-1 win. It was an inauspicious start for the Buzzards, who surrendered the three goals during the 5-minute slashing penalty that was assessed to Anders Lee exactly five minutes into the game. Joe Pavelski scored a late first period goal to account for the Charlotte goal, but both sides clamped down defensively, with no goals forthcoming the last 45 minutes of play. Jagr’s Darcy Kuemper was sensational down the stretch saving 13 of his 26 shots in the third period and turning back a Charlotte squad that outshot Jagr 13-2 during the final period.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
LA Great Danes @ Charlotte Buzzards<\/span><\/th>\nDefenseman Jonas Brodin scored two decisive even strength goals with less than 2 minutes remaining in a deadlocked contest, stunning the Buzzards and lifting Los Angeles to victory, 5-3. Brodin’s goals came 20 seconds apart 18:05 and 18:25 in the final period to break a 3-3 tie and the defenseman captured first star honors. Aged wonder Joe Thornton chipped in with a second period goal for the Great Danes that tied the score at 3-3.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Chicago Cosa Nostra @ Charlotte Buzzards<\/span><\/th>\nMake no mistake about it — the hero of this contest was Cosa Nostra goalie Petr Mr\u00e1zek, who stood on his head to make 40 saves (half of those in the final period) to lead Chicago to a 3-1 victory. Mrazek’s only blemish was a Joe Pavelski goal that slipped past him with 29 seconds to play in the first period that tied the score at that time 1-1. But Chicago’s Chris Kreider and defenseman Shea Theodore scored a goal apiece in the second and third periods respectively that provided to be the margin of victory for a Cosa Nostra squad that was outshot 41-24.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
WEEKLY SUMMARY:<\/span><\/th>\nWith zero points to show for its first three home games out of the gate, the start of this season couldn’t have been more more disastrous for a Charlotte squad that expected to contend for a division title. The team boasts three 30+ goal scores and six other forwards on its four lines with 20 more more goals. But the firepower has been silenced at the start of the season. The only player to make his presense felt is Pavelski who accounted for four of the team’s five measly goals in the three losses at home.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Alamo Defenders @ Bucks County Raccoons<\/span><\/th>\nAlamo outplayed host Bucks County in virtually all aspects of the game, but Ben Bishop was spectacular in goal as the Raccoons defeated the Defenders 3-1. Alamo had more SOG (41-26) ATTEMPTS (84-60) FO % (56-44) CHANCES (18-11) and HITS (18-14) but came up on the short end. The key point of the game came with 4 minutes left when Alamo went on the power play. The Defenders put 8 shots on goal during the PP but Bishop was up to the task and the Racs sealed it on a Duncan Keith empty net goal.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Bucks County Raccoons @ Toledo Walleye<\/span><\/th>\nWalleye 6, Raccoons 5 —— The Raccoons jump on veteran Devan Dubnyk before he can set his water bottle down, scoring (Meier) just 14 seconds into the game. Things then settle down a bit until Barrie gets put in the penalty box and the visitors capitalize with a goal from Murray to make it 2-0. Crowd getting uneasy, but is soon calmed when JVR gets his first of the season to make it 2-1. The ease is short-lived when Compher answers for the beady eyed skaters and the lead is bumped back up to 2, and the 1st period ends 3-1 Bucks County.<\/p>\n

Shaw continues the pummelling with a shot off Dubnyks noggin into the net, just 21 seconds into the 2nd period, making things look bleak at 4-1 Raccoons. As the trainer checks out a wobbly Devan, he does a vision check and they realize that Dubnyk has his contact lenses in the wrong eyes. They swap contacts and hope that the cross-eyed goalie can get it together. The rest of the period, Dubnyk is golden, and the offense comes around, as Arvidsson nets 2, JVR adds another on the power play, and the period ends with the score tied 4-4<\/p>\n

The Walleye get a PP one minute into the 3rd on a Kane trip, and Krejci is able to make him pay, giving the Walleye their first lead of the young season at 5-4. Both goalie hold tight the next 12 minutes, and then Compher finds an opening past Dubnyk to tie it back up with 5 minutes left in the game. Both teams played spirited hockey, back and forth, until with the final push, with under 30 seconds to go, the Walleye get in the offensive zone, and Foligno get a desperation slapshot into the net with only 2 seconds remaining to win a breathtaking 6-5 home opener.<\/p>\n

Guentzel Gunners @ Toledo Walleye<\/span><\/th>\nWalleye 6 – Gunners 4 —– Walleye avoid falling behind right out of the gate. No scoring for 5 minutes, and then the rookie sensation, Elias Pettersson gets his first of the season to make it 1-0. 3 minutes later, game 1 star Arvidsson scores his 3rd of the season to make it 2-0 Walleye before 10 minutes elapse. At this point, the Walleye defense goes on vacation, letting the Gunners skate all over the rink. Kane, Barbashev, Baertschi all get pucks past Dubnyk in the 1st period, without the aid of penalties, and the visitors take the lead to intermission 3-2.<\/p>\n

The carnage continues in the 2nd, after some defense is found, the Gunner get the lead to 2 when Hathaway scores, and we wonder where the defense and offense have gone. Finally, with under a minute left in the 2nd Lindell blasts a long range bomb to cut the lead to 1, and hope is restored as we go to intermission.<\/p>\n

3rd period sees the emergence of the 3rd offensive weapon, as Dadonov scores at the 2 minute mark, and again at the 8 minute mark, to give the Walleye a 5-4 lead. The teams battle to a standoff for 7 minutes until Elias Pettersson gets his 2nd of the game for insurance, and Dubnyk stays perfect in the 3rd period to make the 2 goal lead stand.<\/p>\n

Bathgate Rangers @ Toledo Walleye<\/span><\/th>\nToledo 6 – Bathgate 3 —– Binnington in net for Toledo. Better defense to start this one, compared to the first 2 games. Bathgate scores first near the halfway point as Kotkaniemi puts one in. The lead holds until just before intermission when Arvidsson gets his 4th of the season. Tied 1-1<\/p>\n

Lindell gives Toledo the lead early in the 2nd, but only 2 minutes later Zibanejad evens things up and we move on at 2-2. Arvidsson wipes that lead off the board just a minute later, and adds another (HAT TRICK) just before intermission, to make it 4-2 Toledo at intermission.<\/p>\n

The visitors show signs of a comeback as Buchnevich cuts the lead to 1 at the 5 minute mark into the 3rd. But its a pair of unlikely heroes that emerge late when Foligno and Vanek add insurance goals, Vanek on the PP, to make the final 6-3<\/p>\n

Thunder Bay NorWesters @ Toledo Walleye<\/span><\/th>\nNorWesters 5 Walleye 2 — With visions of a perfect week 1 in sight, Double vision Dubnyk back in goal. Another shaky opening as Landeskog scores just 16 seconds into the 1st period. Things settle down a bit, and then feel much better when Pettersson scores his 3rd of the season. The visitors say not so fast boys, and Athanasiou takes the lead back for TB on a powerplay . Elias Pettersson says not on my ice and levels the score at 2 with his 4th of the season. Things settle back down and we go 2-2 to intermission.<\/p>\n

From that point on, its all Peka Rinne, as he builds a wall in front of the net and tells the boys to grow up. 27 shots from the Walleye all die at the hands of the Thunder Bay goal keep. Meanwhile Johnsson, Jones and Connor all add their first goals of the season, and the NorWesters pop the perfect home opening winning streak, Final 5-2<\/p>\n

Chicago Cosa Nostra @ Cincinnati Inferno<\/span><\/th>\nCincinnati opened the scoring 4:32 into the contest, when defenseman Brett Pesce fired home a shot from the point from William Karlsson and Michael Frolik. Chicago would respond with hometown hero Brandon Pirri notched his first from Travis Sanheim and Thomas Chabot to knot things at 1-1 at the first break. The shots favored the Cosa Nostra, 14-13.<\/p>\n

In the second, David Patrnak’s first of the campaign at 18:19 from Zach Werenski and Jonathan Toewes to give Chicago a 3-1 edge at the second intermission. Cincinnati controlled the shots in the second, doubling up at 14-7.<\/p>\n

In the third, Chicago got an early goal from Pirri (1:32 in)–his second of ther night from Chris Kreider and Sanheim. The Inferno put the pressure on throughout the frame–but Chicago held off all advances and won the game 3-1. Cincinnati nearly tripled up the shots in the third, winning the battle, 17-6. For the game, Cincinnati outshot Chicago, 44-27.<\/p>\n

Petr Mrazek was the number one star with 43 saves to lead the Cosa Nostra and Pirri was the second star. Pastranak was named third star. Jacob Markstrom was the tough-luck loser, turning away 24 shots in the defeat. The Inferno went zero-for-five on the power play, while the Cosa Nostra were turned away in their lone effort with the man-advantage.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Brayden Point opens the scoring giving Cinci a 1-0 lead. Gabe Landeskog follows with 2 goals to push Thunder Bay into the lead 2-1. Perron ties the game at 16:33 of the 1st period. At 18:00 Landeskog is sent to the Pbox for interferance, but Ryan O’Reilly intercepts a pass and gets a breakaway a shorty for a 3-2 at the end of 20 minutes.<\/p>\n

Point starts the 2nd the same way he started the 1st tieing the game at 3-3. Landeskog once again follows Point – his hat trick and pushes the Nor’Westers into 4-3 lead. At 14:33 Alexander Barkov scores on a power play ending the 2nd period scoring with Thundar Bay leading 5-3.<\/p>\n

In a wild – wide open game Sid the Kid scored closing the lead back to one goal. The Thunder Bay 4th line found success as Todd Bertuzzi banged home a 6 inch rebound to extend the lead 6-4 and sent Hellbuyck to the showers. Defenseman Jeff Petry beat Markstrom for 7-4 lead with less than 2 minutes to play. Jeff skinner put one past Pekka Rinne but it was too little to late. Thunder Bay 7 Cincinnati 5<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
