Thunder Bay @ Bathgate Rangers<\/span><\/th>\nRangers shock the NorWesters with a 4 goal run that includes 3 in the final period to take this one 5-2. (Shocked us as well). Hertl gets the lone goal in the 1st and Smith ties it up for Thunder Bay 39 seconds into the 2nd. Then McCann scores a minute later and it’s 2-1 Bathgate after 2. Then ZBad scores 2 win the first 11 minutes of the 3rd and Anderson gets one a couple minutes after that to make it 5-1 Rangers. Athanasiou gets one back for the NorWesters but Bathgate shuts them down after that.

Then McCann and ZBad each score in the 3rd minute of period 2 and Ferland adds a 3rd Rangers goal in the 2nd to make it 4-1 after 2 and that’s how it ends.

Brentwood Bandits @ Bathgate Rangers<\/span><\/th>\nWell, for the 3rd straight game, the Rangers get a 3 goal period – but it wasn’t enough. After giving up 3 goal to Brentwood in the 1st – even strength to Debrusk, SH to Horvat and a last minute PP goal to Josi, Bathgate scores 3 in the 2nd – Giroux (2 of them) and Kotkaniemi. Unfortunately, Niederreiter and Konecny score for Brentwood and it’s 5-4 Brentwood after 2.
\nBUT -ZBad gets one 7 minutes into the 3rd and it’s all tied up. But Linholm and Hertl each get penalites for Bathgate and Kessel and Tavares get PP goals and the Bandits steal this one 7-5. They were a stinking 3 for 3 on the power play for crying out loud. Dylan Strome was able to score 1 in the 1st for Bathgate and he’s been seeing more time lately and it’s paying off (he was set up by P.K. Subban).

Cincinnati Inferno @ LA Great Danes<\/span><\/th>\nEx-Dane Paul Byron scores twice in the firt period, but Scheifele and Bonino tie the game in the 2nd, before a back-breaker goal by Pacioretty with just 13 seconds left in period 2 gives the Inferno the 3-2 lead heading into the 3rd. A Crosby goal extends Cincy’s lead, but Scheifele responds with his 2nd PPG of the game to get LA within one. A Brayden Point goal with 4:11 left seals a 5-3 Cincinnati win.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Alamo Defenders @ LA Great Danes<\/span><\/th>\nThe Danes go with a veteran lineup as they look to knock off their division rivals, and they come through with a big effort and a 6-3 win. LA led 2-1 going into the 3rd and lost the lead when Boone Jenner scored for Alamo, but Marleau and Ehlers put LA back up 4-2. A McAvoy goal with 2:59 left made it a 4-3 game, but the Danes put the game away with 2 empty-netters. Alex Pietrangelo was the game’s #1 star with a +6 rating and 1G-1A. Frederick Andersen, who has struggled against Alamo in the past, came up with 42 saves in the win.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Gilbert Sharks @ LA Great Danes<\/span><\/th>\nIn a battle for last place, the Danes shift to a young lineup, and poor defensive play leads to a 7-5 loss. Nathan Mackinnon dominated for the Sharks with 2G-2A. But LA’s 4th line of Chytl-Hintz-Roslovic were +2 with goals for Hintz, his first in the MWHL, and Roslovic. Jack Roslovic needs to be given more ice time, as he leads the team by far with a +9 rating. And with 5G-5A in 25 games while averaging 6.4 minutes of ice time per game, his scoring pace per minute is on par with the league’s best.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
WEEKLY SUMMARY:<\/span><\/th>\nThe Great Danes will continue to juggle their lineups the rest of the year. 19 different players registered a point in this week’s home games, and there will be lots of competition for playing time the rest of the way.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n\n\n

Lafayette Homesteaders @ Jagr Mullets<\/span><\/th>\nOnly one game of home cooking this week; fortunately the boys are well fed as they go on a 7-4 rampage against Lafayette.<\/p>\n

The game starts off horribly wrong, as Radulov goes off for tripping just 28 seconds in; then Duchene (18) scores 10 seconds later. But then the Mullets get the flow on, pouring in 4 goals in the 2nd and then Radulov gets a little redemption with the empty-netter at the end.<\/p>\n

Yellowknife Braves @ Toledo Walleye<\/span><\/th>\nToledo 4, Yellowknife 3 – First period is played even, sometimes 4 on 4, as the only penalties a minor skirmishes, Manson\/Cirelli and Lemieux\/Nemeth. Aggressive defense limits SOG to 8 for the visitors and 7 for Toledo. Nothing gets past the goalies, and its 0-0 going to the 2nd.<\/p>\n

2nd period starts with Rantanen called for holding, and the Walleye capitalize with a goal from Connolly to draw first blood. Toledo kills a penalty shortly after, and then Williams hooks up with Mantha to earn 2 minutes each. Shortly after we get back to full strength, Lindell pops in a mid range shot to put Toledo up 2-0. Manson and Krejci scuffle a little later, and then just before the period ends, Palmieri signals things are about to heat up when he puts the Braves on the board, and its 2-1 Walleye at the end of 2.<\/p>\n

3rd period sees good even play with better offensive attacks. But Toledo is able to keep the lead at either 1 or 2 the whole way, alleviating some of the pucker factor. First they go up 2 on a goal by Anisimov, then the Braves answer from Aho. Toledo makes it 4-2 with a goal from van Riemsdyk, before Yellowknife answers from Duclair. Toledo is able to make the 1 goal lead stand the final 5 minutes for the W.<\/p>\n

Chicago Cosa Nostra @ Toledo Walleye<\/span><\/th>\nToledo 5, Chicago 2 – Chicago has its way the first 40 minutes of the game. An early goal from Pastmak is followed by defensive domination. Chicago gets 15 SOG against only 8 from Toledo, but a 1-0 lead going into the 2nd period is pretty good.<\/p>\n

2nd period a little chink in the armor appears when a Toews penalty allows the Walleye to even things up, PP goal by Vanek. Chicago quickly answers with a goal by DeBrincat to make it 2-1. More defense follows and we go to the 3rd 2-1 Chicago, and Toledo looking for some offense.<\/p>\n

3rd period – Another tweak on offense for Toledo pays off. First Chicago halps kick start things with a Nugent-Hopkins penalty that gives the Walleye just enough advantage with the powerplay, and Mantha evens it at 2. 10 more minutes of defense by both teams before the dam bursts, and Toledo gets one from Bailey, and then Connolly, to make it 4-2 with 2 minutes to go. An empty netter by Barrie makes it 5-2 at final horn.<\/p>\n

WEEKLY PREVIEW:<\/span><\/th>\nTo be blunt, Charlotte’s last month of play has been nothing short of atrocious: after a hopeful 18-11-3 start to the season, the Buzzards slumped through a disastrous 4-12-2 stretch recently (marked by multiple games lost in the last minute of the third period), knocking it out of current playoff positioning. Charlotte, was in desperate need of a division win to remain relevant in the race, when it hosted Cincinnati on February 7.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Cincinnati Inferno @ Charlotte Buzzards<\/span><\/th>\nThe Buzzards failed to get that division win it needed, instead getting doused by the Inferno 3-2. Typifying many of its losses, an impressive shots on goal advantage went wasted: Charlotte outshot Cincinnati 46-24 but was stymied by the surprisingly sensational performance of Inferno goalie Casey DeSmith (yes he currently of the Wilkes-Barre\/Scranton Penguins) and his 44 saves. All Inferno goals came in the first period as Cincinnati seized an early 3-1 lead, courtesy of goals scored by forwards Brayden Point, Brock Boeser and Jeff Skinner (all with 15 or more goals now for the season). Alex Tuch accounted for both Charlotte goals, including a power play tally 5:14 into the second period that closed the scoring. From there, DeSmith shut the door, saving the other 30 shots fired at him in the second and third periods.<\/p>\n

WEEKLY SUMMARY:<\/span><\/th>\nCharlotte continues to get stymied offensively during this midseason slump, and with less than 30 games remaining, time is running out. Without a hot streak down the stretch, this Buzzards team, which started out so strong, can kiss goodbye hopes for its first postseason.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
