Charlotte Buzzards @ Bathgate Rangers<\/span><\/th>\nRangers score 1st (Drouin) in the 1st, but then the Buzzards get 3 unanswered goals – 1 in each period: Smith, Larkin, and Johnson to take a 3-1 lead. The 3rd goal was a late empty netter and the Rangers did counter that but with only 5 seconds left. ZBad got that goal.

Cincinnati Inferno @ Bathgate Rangers<\/span><\/th>\nAh – what you can do with 19 shots and a 3-1 deficit. Zibanejad started the game scoring 2 minutes in, then Byron, Crosby and Point tallied for the Inferno. Nugent-Hopkins cut that 3-1 lead down to 3-2 but Boeser closes out the 1st with a PP goal for Cincinnati and they take a 4-2 lead after 1. But that’s when the Rangers said NO-MORE! And that’s when Buchnevich decided to take over the game. He scores 2 in the 1st 10 minutes of the 2nd. then McCann scores early in the 3rd and the Rangers are up 5-4. Game stays that way until the final minute – goalie pulled for the Inferno and Buchnevich gets an EN goal for the hat trick and ZBad gets the closing bookend EN goal for the final score of 7-4 Rangers (on 19 shots).

LA Great Danes @ Bathgate Rangers<\/span><\/th>\nRangers undershot their previous game with 18 SOGs – but again they are accurate as 5 of them get past the Great Danes defense and Varlamov while Georgiev stops ALL 34 LA shots for the shutout!
\nRangers score 4 times in the 2nd – ZBad, Buch, Provorov and Hertl and Hertl scores again midway in the 3rd for the final tally.

Alamo Defenders @ Jagr Mullets<\/span><\/th>\nThe Alamo coaches must have found a PK weakness for the Mullets on film, as they go 2-2 on the man advantage.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately for them, the Mullets score 4 at even strength and add an empty netter to take the game 5-2.<\/p>\n

Ovechkin pots a pair while Morgan Rielly continues his Norris campaign in racking up a pair of assists to go with his +3.<\/p>\n

Chicago Cosa Nostra @ Jagr Mullets<\/span><\/th>\nNext up is Chicago, and they fall to the same fate as Alamo, losing 5-2.<\/p>\n

It’s actually a tight game until the last minute – the Mullets hold a 3-2 lead but then score a pair of empty-netters in the final minute to make it look like a laugher.<\/p>\n

Morgan Rielly piles on 3 more assists (+2) and Ovie is held to only a single helper. Svechnikov also pots one, giving advance notice that he is going to be a force to reckon with next season.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

LA Great Danes<\/span><\/th>\n<\/tr>\n
WEEKLY PREVIEW:<\/span><\/th>\nThe Great Danes will end the season with 7 of the final 10 games on home ice. This week versus Chicago, Toledo, and Lafayette.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Chicago Cosa Nostra @ LA Great Danes<\/span><\/th>\nChicago returns to LA after last week’s win here led by Pastrnak’s natural hat trick. Last week’s performance was embarrasing and the Danes are 3-8 lifetime against Chicago and 1-4 at home against them, so the Danes look for some revenge against the playoff bound gangsters.<\/p>\n

It was a crazy 1st period with 5 total goals and each team scored on their first shot of the game and each team goes 1-1 on the power play. The Danes lead 3-2 after one, and then it’s a scoreless 2nd period, although Chicago outshoots LA 16-7 in the 2nd.<\/p>\n

In the third, the Cosa Nostra’s dirty tactics backfire as they take 3 straight penalties in the first half of the period, and LA finally makes them pay on the final PP on a deflection goal by Nikolaj Ehlers. The Danes keep the momentum the rest of the way and win 4-2, outshooting Chicago 16-1 part-way through the period and 20-11 for the 3rd period in total – also a 12-1 scoring chance advantage in the 3rd.<\/p>\n

No points this time for Pasta – minus 1, 2 PIM, and 4 giveaways. Scheifele led LA with 1G-1A and Andersen with 39 saves.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Toledo Walleye @ LA Great Danes<\/span><\/th>\nIt’s a tight, low scoring affair in this one. Only 3 scoring chances combined in the first period, and the games frst goal comes with 6 minutes left in the 2nd. LA’s 4th line gets the first goal on a Roope Hintz redirection, but Elias Pettersson evens the score with a late 2nd period one-timer past Andersen.<\/p>\n

The Danes dominated the faceoffs with a 72% rate through 2 periods, but they lose the opening face-off in the 3rd and Toledo quickly takes the lead 29 seconds in on a goal by Van Riemsdyk. Both teams had some great scoring chances the rest of the way, but Toledo hangs on for the 2-1 road win.<\/p>\n

The 3 stars for Toledo challenge my spelling skills – Pettersson (having an amazing MWHL year with 93 points), Dubnyk, and Van Riemsdyk.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Lafayette Homesteaders @ LA Great Danes<\/span><\/th>\nIt’s a battle of the 2 worst PK units in the league, LA at #15 and Lafayette at #16. Backup Varlamov in net for LA – looks like Varlamov will take over LA’s #1 goalie job next season over Andersen.<\/p>\n

Brayden Schenn went into beast mode for the game’s first goal – in one power play sequence, Schenn hits the post, is stopped on 2 succeeding wrap around attempts, and later in the PP scores the wrap around goal. Matt Duchene ties the game shortly after that, but then LA gets another PPG, this time from Mark Scheifele. Early in the 2nd, Kucherov ties the game, and there is no more scoring the rest of the way. After a scoreless overtime, we go to the shootout. In round one Kucherov scores and Scheifele hits the post. But Varlamov stops Eichel and Forsberg, and Benn and Teravainen beat Martin Jones, so the Great Danes come away with a 3-2 shootout win. Varlamov was the #1 star for LA with 41 saves, with Schenn for LA and Duchene for Lafayette being the other 2 stars. LA wins the PK battle – after LA goes 2-2 on the PP in the first, the Danes take 4 straight penalties but kill them all.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

But Cali gets 2 from Stone (37) and Dal Colle (1) in the last 3 minutes to take a 2-1 lead heading into the 2nd.<\/p>\n

Konecny completes the HT (28, 29) and Horvat (13) adds one as the Bandits win 4-2.<\/p>\n

Only ONE penalty all game, and the Bandits capitalized with the PP goal.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Yellowknife Braves @ Brentwood Bandits<\/span><\/th>\nYellowknife cuts the Bandits as they play spoiler winning 3-2.<\/p>\n

A high scoring affair sees the Bandits go up 2-1, then 5-2… only to see the Raccoons come back and tie the game in the 3rd, 5-5.<\/p>\n

We head to OT where one of last years playoff heroes, Kerfoot (19), plays OT hero and sends the crowd home happy with a very entertaining OT win, 6-5!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Sidney Crosby’s goal 34 seconds into the game opened the floodgates in Cincinnati’s win, as the Inferno scored four in the first and then held on.<\/p>\n

Jeff Skinner and Crosby each had a goal and an assist and Casey DeSmith stopped 18 shots in the win.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Brentwood Bandits @ Cincinnati Inferno<\/span><\/th>\nCincinnati 4, Brentwood 2<\/p>\n

Paul Byron’s goal with 1:26 to go proved to be the game winner. Sidney Crosby added an empty netter to seal the victory.<\/p>\n

The game proved to be one of the cleanest of the season, as just three minor penalties were called–allowing for ONE power play for the night.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

California Regulators @ Bucks County Raccoons<\/span><\/th>\nCalifornia starts the game with a 5 minute PP and put up 54 SOG for the game, but Jack Campbell turns aside 53 of them and Evander Kane scores 7 minutes into the 3rd period as Bucks County holds on for an important 2-1 victory. In addition to the 54 SOG, the Racs also blocked 29 shots as the visitors had an astounding 96 shot attempts.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

WEEKLY PREVIEW:<\/span><\/th>\nCharlotte gets a break from having to play Cincinnati a million times in a row and hosts two teams outside the Atlantic division, Lafayette and Toledo.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Lafayette Homesteaders @ Charlotte Buzzards<\/span><\/th>\nCharlotte gets the better of Lafayette in a furious and entertaining third period and rallies with three unanswered goals in the final seven minutes of the game to stun Martin Jones and the Homesteaders, 6-5. The Buzzards finally find themselves on the winning side of a late goal, with Brent Burns finding the net with :35 left in regulation for the margin of victory. Ryan Dzingel scored on the power play with 6:56 left in the third which narrowed the Buzzards’ deficit to 5-4 at the time and Dylan Larkin tied things up with 2:05 left in the period, courtesy of assists from Burns and Jon Marchessault. The game was tied 2-2 entering the third period before the scoring floodgates opened and goals earlier in the period from Matt Duchene, Kevin Lebanc and Nikita Kucherev staked Lafayette to the 5-3 lead before Charlotte’s very late rally.<\/p>\n

Three stars all from Charlotte:
\nStar 1: Alex Tuch (two goals early in the game)
\nStar 2: Larkin (two goals and three points total)
\nStar 3: Burns (the game winning goal and three points total)<\/p>\n

Notables: Charlotte finally wins a game where it has a shooting advantage, 41-35. Jones has 35 saves and plays well early before the roof caves in at the end.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Toledo Walleye @ Charlotte Buzzards<\/span><\/th>\nCharlotte again rallies in the third period, this time with three successive goals that catch the Walleye, 6-4. Ryan Dzingel and Alex Tuch each score halfway through the third to seize the lead 5-4 and Vladimir Tarasenko adds an empty netter at 19:39. Consecutive early-game goals from Toldeo’s Artis Anisimo, Brent Seabrook (no. 3 on the year) and Viktor Arvidsson turned a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 in this back and forth affair, prior to the final Charlotte comeback.<\/p>\n

Three Stars:
\nStar 1: Tarasenko, 1 goal 2 points
\nStar 2: Tuch 1 goal 2 points
\nStar 3: Toledo’s James van Riemsdyk 1 goal 2 points<\/p>\n

Notables: Charlotte has the clear shot advantage over Toledo, 49-25, and forces Walleye netkeeper Jordan Bennington to make 43 saves. Dylan Larkin wins 18 faceoffs for the Buzzards.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

WEEKLY SUMMARY:<\/span><\/th>\nThe break outside the division is clearly a welcome relief. (Getting beat up by the class of the league in Cincinnati 20 straight times took its toll; Guentzel and Thunder Bay are not chopped liver either). The result is Charlotte gets 4 points out of a possible four when finally getting to play someone outside the division — funny how that works.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
