2:58 in, Daniel Sprong (4) continues his early season success making it 1-0 Bandits.<\/p>\n

Less than a minute later, Tanev (2) fires one from the point that skips past Brossoit to tie it up 1-1!<\/p>\n

Time winding down in the 1st… Martinez one times a loose puck past Greiss at 19:37… 2-1 Bandits!<\/p>\n

2nd Period
\nPavelski (9) shows he has more gas left in the tank – Bandits up 3-1.<\/p>\n

A little over a minute later, Captain Bo Horvat (1) gets his first of the season finally! 4-1 Bandits lead.<\/p>\n

\nHorvat gets his 2nd of the game and season, and Brossoit does his best Vasilevskiy impression, turning aside all 10 shots faced to end this one 5-1!<\/p>\n

A great goalie matchup with Grubauer in for Cali, and Vasilevskiy back in net for the Bandits.<\/p>\n

A very defensive 1st period as California out-shoots the Bandits 6-5 in a scoreless period.<\/p>\n

2nd Period… Brentwood returns the favor and out-shoots California 10-8, but with the same scoreless result.<\/p>\n

Onto the 3rd… Bandits out-shoot the Regulators again, but again, the same scoreless results! So we end regulation scoreless and head to OT!<\/p>\n

Bandits come out firing… two shots on Grubauer, two saves.<\/p>\n

Bandits cycle the puck… Guentzel to Reilly, over to Pavelski… shoots… SCORES!!! His 10th on the season!<\/p>\n

\nBrentwood out-shoots Bucks County 14-3 in a lopsided period, but Campbell stays on task… at least on 13 of those shots, as #14 goes behind him on the PP at 19:53 as Guentzel (5) rips a wicked wristah past him! 1-0 Bandits!<\/p>\n

2nd Period…
\nShots equal 9-9 and this time Oshie (5) gets one past Vasi on the PP to tie it at 1-1!!<\/p>\n

3rd Period…
\nShots again equal 13-13…<\/p>\n

Aston-Reese intercepts a pass and is off to the races… he stops skating and glides in on Campbell. Dekes, shoots… SCORES!! His 4th of the season… 2-1 Bandits!!<\/p>\n

Then at 11:09, Aston-Reese (5) puts another past Campbell to continue his unexpected strong start to make it 3-1 Bandits!<\/p>\n

Raccoons pull Campbell with 1:30 left… but Vasilevskiy shuts the door and the Bandits win yet again, 3-1!!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

When asked about the improbably win streak, coach Tom Atkins replied “It’s all about balance. A balanced attack. Offense and defense. If you can get your team to buy into that, and you have the talent in the spots where it’s needed… then you will win more than you will lose.”<\/p>\n

One note: One time Bandit Stanley Cup hero, and cult fan favorite, Frank Vatrano, despite his “8” rating for Inside Scoring, has ZERO goals in 10 games and has only 1 assist and is a -1… He has been demoted to the 3rd line. One-win Pittsburgh comes out aggressively, and after a near-miss by LA when Darnell Nurse hits the crossbar in the first minute, the Miners respond with 3 quick scoring chances and a Kadri goal just 2:55 in. Then with Kadri in the box, LA ties the game on a Barkov PPG, and the first periods ends with a 1-1 tie.<\/p>\n

After an even period 1, LA senses this one will be a battle, and Hague and Krejci are sent off 15 seconds in with coincidental roughing minors. Period 2 is a tight one, and LA gets the only tally by Mark Scheifele halfway through, so LA holds a 2-1 lead going to the final frame.<\/p>\n

5 minutes into the 3rd, Claude Giroux converts off an odd-man rush to give LA a 2-goal cushion, and the defense goes in shutdown mode from there. As we’ve seen late in other games, LA struggles at the end and Pittsburgh spends basically the final 2 minutes of the game in the offensive zone, but LA hangs on for a hard-fought 3-1 victory.<\/p>\n

Three stars are Scheifele 1G-1A, Shesterkin 28 saves, and Giroux 1G<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

No scoring through much of the first, but LA goes up 2-0 with goals 20 seconds apart by Boeser and Gourde. In the second, newcomer Chandler Stephenson puts LA up 3-0 with a wraparound goal, the 2nd wraparound to beat Petersen in this one. It’s 3-0 LA after two, with Toledo getting their first and only SOG of period 2 with one minute left. Chances are LA 13-1 after two.<\/p>\n

Nikolaj Ehlers scores 2:50 into the 3rd, with Stephenson getting his 2nd point of the night and as a Great Dane. From there, Semyon Varlamov makes a few big saves and finishes off the Walleye with a 16-save shutout.<\/p>\n

A 4-0 win for the Danes, Varlamov is the #1 star with his second shutout of the season, and Stephenson 1G-1A, and Gourde 1G are the other stars.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

WEEKLY SUMMARY:<\/span><\/th>\nThe Great Danes’ offense has yet to break out this year, but the defense and goaltending are carrying the team so far. Perhaps not matched against the elite teams at home this week, but only 12 scoring chances against in total for the 2 games is a positive sign, and the goalies benefit, with 117 minutes of shutout hockey after the early Miner goal in the first game.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The teams match goals in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd periods, 1 in each period and regulation ends 3-3. LA outshot the Rangers 31-27 and committed 1 more penalty (including the dreaded too many men on ice). Each team managed a PP goal. Scoring in regulation:
\nScheifele for LA and Ritchie for Bathgate in the 1st. Donski for Rangers and Great Danes Doeser score in the 2nd. Hertl puts Bathgate up 3-2 with 10 minutes to go, but Scheifele scores his 2nd goal with just under 2 minutes to go to tie it up. Then the buzzer.So on to OT.
\nDon’t BLINK! Scheifele wins the faceoff – Nylander takes it into the Rangers end, to Scheifele with a drive, shoots SCORES!!! Just like that, 18 seconds in and it’s a Hat Trick and GWG. Irony – on two of his goals Giroux received an assist (against his former team). He also received his Stanley Cup ring before the game.

Well the 1st home game was an OT loss. this one went to a shoot-out!
\nRaccoons looking for payback from Stanley Cup finals.
\nBathgate dominated to the offensive action and faceoffs, but it wasn’t enough to put the Raccoons away in regulation. And each team fired 3 shots in the OT period – to no avail.
\nKane started the scoring in the first for Bucks County and Meier also tallied for the Raccoons. In between, Tavares deflected in a PP goal and it was 2-1 after 1.2nd period see Donskoi scoring twice for the Rangers for a 3-2 lead – but once again as the period waned, Hayes scored to tie it up.3rd period – all defense and that sends it to free hockey time.Nothing in OT so we go to the shoot-out.
\nMcDavid starts it and Halak stops it.
\nHertl up against Khudobin – fakes the shot, then shots – SCORE.
\nOshie’s turn – he fakes, shoots, nice save.
\nDonskoi skates in with it, goes for the slap shot – misses the net.
\nHyman to skate in to keep the game going. Here we go, he skates in, quick deke, wrist shot – just wide. Game over. And Rangers win 4-3 (SO)

\nBathgate comes out in the 1st firing early and often (something Chicago knows a lot about – at least election wise). But before the Rangers got started, Pastrnak puts one past Kahkonen 18 seconds into the game. That got the Rangers going! They responded a minute later as Buchnevich scores. Then Hertl scores 5 minutes in. Tavares scores just before the midpoint of the period and Strome finishes the 1st period scoring and Bathgate owns the game 4-1.Wennberg scores a PP goal for Chicago in the 2nd to make it more interesting.3rd period – suddenly the Cosa Nostra draw close when Pastrnak scores his 2nd goal 3 minutes into the period. But the Rangers close up things and clamp down on Chicago and keeps them scoreless. Hmmm, that is until the final minute, with an extra attacker, DeBrincat scores the tying goal. Man – 3 games in a row at home the Rangers falter late in the 3rd. So it’s free hockey time again.OT – And once again no one is getting it done. Final minute and finally we are seeing some action and Tavares is able to shoot one low and it gets by Mrazek top shelf and Rangers win 5-4!

Vincent Trocheck’s second goal of the night just past the midway point of the game, closed out the scoring and lifted Toledo to a 3-2 win over Cincinnati. Trocheck was also dominant in the faceoff circle, winning 13 of 17 opportunities.<\/p>\n

Cal Petersen turned away 38 shots in improving his record to 3-1 on the year. Valeri Nichushkin and Logan Couture scored the Cincinnati goals.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Former Inferno forward Joe Pavelski netted the game-ending goal with 44 seconds left in overtime, to lift Brentwood to a 2-1 win over Cincinnati. Another former Inferno forward, Jake Guentzel, took it out on his old team with the game-tying goal with 20 seconds left in regulation time to force the extra frame.<\/p>\n

Valeri Nichushkin had the lone Inferno goal in the second period. Andrei Vasilevskiy turned aside 28 shots in running his record to 7-0. Connor Hellebuyck stopped 26 in having his record level at 3-3-1.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Max Pacioretty’s second goal of the night was the final score in a 3-0 win over LA. Cam Talbot re-directed all 23 shots in picking up his third win and first shutout of the season.<\/p>\n

The Inferno outshot the Great Danes, 29-23. William Karlsson was solid in the faceoff circle, claiming 13 of 21 chances.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Huberdeau (4) opens the scoring for California 12:39 into the first period on a power play goal but Comtois (2) responds for Portland with 56 seconds remaining to even the score at 1-1<\/p>\n

The next two periods the goalies, Grubauer and Oettinger, locked down the nets and we go to overtime where once again no goals were scored<\/p>\n

In the shootout California’s Reinhart was stopped and Portland’s Farabee found the net to give the Storm a 1-0 advantage. Oettinger once again stopped Huberdeau and Portland had the chance to win but Batherson was unable to capitalize. With one last opportunity the Regulators sent out Stone who evened the score when he slipped a shot past Oettinger for the goal. Portland’s Brown came onto the icce with the home crowd on their feet and sent everyone home happy when he managed to score to give Portland the win<\/p>\n

In a tight defensive battle the game was 0-0 midway through the third period when Yellowknife’s Janmark (2) got a 2-on-1 breakaway and received a pass from Morrissey and buried the shot with 7:49 left in the game. With 2:05 left in the game the Brave’s Kuznetsov was called for a elbowing penalty and Portland had one last chance on the power play. The Storm pounded the goal but the Yellowkife defense and Greiss was able to hold them off and walk away with a 1-0 win on the road<\/p>\n

Speaking from Tipton’s 60,000 acre retreat, “Silverstone,” team spokesperson and P.R. Director Michael Anthony sought to dispel persistent rumors that the franchise would be moved after the season. Meanwhile the team continued to struggle on home ice, once again going 1-2-0.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

It would stay that way until Wennberg found the empty net as time wound down for a 3-1 win for the Cosa Nostra.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

It has been quite the 3+ year journey. Who says there is no such thing as a five year rebuild? Charlotte (6-2 as it started this week) was seeking to maintain the hot start as it hosted Toledo and Pittsburgh.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

CHARLOTTE BUZZARDS<\/span><\/th>\n

In a battle between two first-place teams (I like the sound of that), the Buzzards gained a point while dropping a 5-4 contest to the Walleye, an outcome settled by a 2-0 overtime shootout. Toledo goalie Thatcher Demko shut out Charlotte 2-0 through the three rounds of the shootout and recorded 32 saves in regulation. Walleye center Vince Trocheck put the finishing touches on the shootout and the game by slipping one past Buzzards goalie Chris Driedger (34 saves in regulation) in the third round.<\/p>\n

Jason Robertson saved the contest for Toledo with an even strength goal with 28 seconds remaining in the third, which tied the contest at 4-4. Both teams exchanged a pair of goals in both the first and third periods. Trocheck also added a goal in regulation; it came one minute into the third and put the Walleye ahead 3-2 prior to goals from Tyler Myers and Craig Smith providing the Buzzards with a temporary 4-3 lead.<\/p>\n

In a game where defense ruled the day, the Buzzards prevailed 2-1 over a Pittsburgh Miners team that battled hard. Both goalies starred with Jake Allen (27 saves), making a rare start for Charlotte, slightly outplaying Sergei Bobrovsky (25 saves).<\/p>\n

On offense, Jonathan Marchessault was a difference-maker for Charlotte, scoring 18:26 into the first period to break a scoreless tie, then, after a scoreless second, he assisted on a Craig Smith game-winning goal 4:10 into the third. Anthony Cirelli gave Pittsburgh a chance with a goal with 2:57 left in the third that ended Allen’s shutout bid but the Miners could not find the tying goal in the closing minutes.<\/p>\n

The 2nd period sees the Walleye absolutely pound away at Smith in goal, getting 18 SOG, but only getting one in the net. Kempe with the lone score of the period. Each team kills one penalty, and its 3-1.<\/p>\n

The 3rd period sees a repeat of the 2nd, this time the Walleye get 19 SOG, and Smith hangs in there allowing only one through. Alamo gets only 1 SOG in each of the last 2 periods, which this reporter has never seen before. Alamo wins 3-2<\/p>\n
