\nCaptain Horvat (7) rises to the occasion to give the Bandits an early 1-0 lead!<\/p>\n

But Kaprizon (16) and Lindholm (10) score to make it a 2-1 Jagr lead! Vasilevskiy is not happy as he skates furiously in a figure 8… to the point of damaging the ice, which causes a delay in the game (i.e. my breakfast was ready so I took a break)… would this break in action help the Bandits?<\/p>\n

Kopitar (6) on the PP to tie it 2-2!<\/p>\n

At 19:56, Karlsson (1) gets his first of the season… what we call a “Ballbreaker Goal” with 4 seconds left in the period. Bandits go into the locker room up 3-2!<\/p>\n

2nd Period
\nZach Aston-Reese (7) shows why he has become a fan favorite as he puts the Bandits up 4-2!<\/p>\n

On the PP, Karlsson (2) gets his second of the season and the game to make it 5-2!!<\/p>\n

3rd Period
\nJagr is on the offensive. Vasilevskiy needs to be on his game to make some amazing saves… Svechnikov (3) brings the Jagoffs within two goals, 5-3!!<\/p>\n

But with Kuemper pulled, Jake the Snake Guentzel (12) buries an empty netter from the neutral zone to send the fans home happy with a 6-3 win!<\/p>\n

Jagr fired 17 SOG at Vasilevskiy in the 3rd, but it wasn’t enough as Vasi continues his hot start!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

1st Period
\nMiners fire 15 SOG at Vasilevskiy, who turns them all away in a scoreless period.<\/p>\n

2nd Period
\n33 seconds in, Martinez (7) continues his Norris Trophy campaign season putting the Bandits up 1-0!<\/p>\n

Later in the period, Norris (11) scores to tie it up 1-1!!<\/p>\n

3rd Period
\nBandits do everything they can to put it away, but Bobrovsky stops all 17 SOG fired at him, much like Vasi did last game in the 3rd.<\/p>\n

We’ll head to OT
\nDidn’t take long for Norris (12) to beat Vasi glove side low to stun the crowd as the Bandits drop a home game in OT to the last place Divisional and cross-town rivals.<\/p>\n

Rangers jump out to a 2-0 lead in the first, make it 4-0 after 2 and then give up an early goal to Bjorkstrand in the 3rd, but that was all Yellowknife could muster in the 4-1 Rangers win. Donskoi, Pionk, Hertl and Hagel score for Bathgate.<\/p>\n

Reimer was tested a lot in this game as Yellowknife peppered him with 39 shots but just the one slipped past him. Rangers only had 16 SOGs – a 4th of them going in and they were 2 for 3 on the PP.

This game was all California – Regulators rattle off 3 goals in the 1st – Gaudreau then Reinhart and then Reinhart again with 1 second left in the period and it’s a PP goal.<\/p>\n

2nd period, Huberdeaus scores the only goal.<\/p>\n

And in the 3rd the Rangers wake up a bit as Nugent-Hopkins and Ritchie score to make it 4-2 with 7 minutes to go. Rangers go for broke at the end but Subban scores the EN goal to really seal the deal for a 5-2 California win!

Now the biggie against Brentwood – Rangers were probably thinking ahead.
\n2 minutes into the game, Foegele beats Georgiev with a slap shot for a 1-0 lead. And sports fans, that’s the last time that Brentwood lights the lamp. But that doesn’t mean anything as the Rangers fail to score in the 1st.But 43 seconds into the 2nd, Panarin beats Vasilevskiy. Then a strange thing happens. Ritchie beats him 3 minutes later for a 2-1 lea and then ZBad tallies 10 minutes later as the Rangers rack up 3 goals in the 2nd.<\/p>\n

And to to it off, McCann scores early in the 3rd and the Rangers pull off the 4-1 upset! We’ll take it!

So with mighty Brentwood falling, can the Rangers keep up the momentum and knock off the Mullets or will there be a let down?<\/p>\n

Well in the 1st the teams each traded 2 goals with Kaprizov and Matthews tallying for Jagr and Buchnevich (PP) and Panarin scoring for Bathgate.<\/p>\n

Then the Rangers got chippy and were called for a could of penalties in the 2nd and those mulletted guys made us pay – TWICE! Matthews and Miller both getting PP goals. Then in the 3rd, Svechnikov scores Jagr’s 3rd PP goal (they were 3-3 on them – up until this game we were pretty decent on the Penalty Kill. When the ice shavings settled, the final score was a big 5-2 win for the Mullets – yuk! And the Rangers dominated the SOGs (32-20 and won the FO battle and the hits, but those 3 PP goals were the big difference, plus a 4th goal came on a delayed penalty!

Hintz ties it up for LA later in the period but Danault gives Gilbert a 2-1 lead before the end if the 2nd and Fiala makes it a 2 goal lead early in the 3rd. Boeser cuts the lead to 1 a few minutes later but just a minute after that Burakovsky gives Gilbert the cushion again. Victor Hedman adds an empty netter to give Gilbert a huge 5-2 win over the division leader.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

WEEKLY PREVIEW:<\/span><\/th>\nLA’s Pacific Division lead has dwindled to 3 points, as California has been red hot, and the Danes had a disappointing week 7. The 7-0 shellacking at home by Yellowknife was one thing, but the loss to Pittsburgh was a tougher way to lose. Up 2-1 on the road, the Danes had a late power play – PIT’s PP expired with 31 seconds to go, they tied the game with 23 seconds left and won it with 2 seconds to go. Ouch!!<\/p>\n

A third of the way through the season, the Danes have shown well against the top 4 teams in the league with a 7-0-1 record, but 4 regulation losses to teams with a .350 winning % is becoming a concern for this team.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

LA GREAT DANES<\/span><\/th>\n

Igor Shesterkin was center stage in the 2 losses last week, giving up the first 3 shots in 2:49 to Yellowknife and the 2 late goals to Pittsburgh. As they say, get back on the Great Dane (the horse) when you fall off, so Igor is put right back in net to try to get some redemption.<\/p>\n

And the Danes start the game in second place in the Pacific, knowing California already won 2 road games this week.<\/p>\n

The only goal of the 1st period is a short-handed goal by Claude Giroux of LA. Midway through the 2nd, Roope Hintz extends the lead. After Max Pacioretty scores for Cincy, William Nylander converts on a 3 on 1 and the Danes lead 3-1 after 2.<\/p>\n

Brayden Point gets a big goal for the Inferno at 7:16 of the 3rd, and the crowd is nervous as the Danes cling to a 1 goal lead. When Giroux is stopped on a breakaway with 2:02 left and Boeser is stopped point blank with 1:08 to go, it seems that the missed opportunities may come back to haunt LA, but they hold on for the 3-2 win.<\/p>\n

Pacioretty is the #1 star in a losing effort with 1G-1A, and goals scorers Giroux and Hintz for LA are the other 2 stars. It was an important win for Shesterkin as he makes 29 saves.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

GILBERT SHARKS<\/span><\/p>\n

LA GREAT DANES<\/span><\/th>\n

The Danes lose this week on the road to Gilbert, so redemption is the theme once again as they host the Sharks.<\/p>\n

LA presses early, and Darnell Nurse scores at 4:12 on LA’s 6th scoring chance in the early going. But Cale Makar evens the game on the power play, and it’s 1-1 after one.<\/p>\n

The teams trade goals in the second – Stephenson for LA and Kubalik for Gilbert, so we head to the 3rd period tied at 2.<\/p>\n

LA gets their first and only power play chance of the game in the 3rd. It’s a barrage from LA’s power play, and Brock Boeser converts on the team’s 5th scoring chance, on a rebound. A couple of minutes later, Mark Scheifele scores off a rebound of his own shot, and the Danes take a 4-2 lead with 10 minutes to go.<\/p>\n

But the 2-goal cushion is quickly gone when Andre Burakovsky scores on the power play for Gilbert, his 15th goal of the season. So it’s another nail-biter down the stretch, and LA finally ends it with an empty net goal by Jonas Brodin with just 13 seconds left.<\/p>\n

A 5-3 win for LA, another road team first star with Cale Makar’s 1G-1A. The other stars are Boeser and Brodin, each with a goal.<\/p>\n

One of the cheaper stars of the game that I have seen for Brodin, with the empty netter in a mere 8 minutes of ice-time. Mark Scheifele with the game winner might have been a better choice. Scheifele now has 6 GWG’s for the year, 3 of them in OT.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Toledo jumps in early, scoring a goal in the first 3 mintues, with Saad getting the goal. Toledo kills off 2 minors, Yellowknife kills 1, and its 1-0 after the 1st.<\/p>\n

Robertson adds one for Toledo in a very clean 2nd period, no penalties. SOG pretty even, and we go to the 3rd period 2-0 Toledo.<\/p>\n

Yellowknife mistakes put them on the PK 3 times in the first 12 mintues, which hurts their comback effort. All 3 penalties are killed successfully however, but Trocheck scores just 10 seconds after the last PK ends, and its 3-0 Toledo. Finally at full strength, the Braves wipe that zero off the board with a blast from Aho. The score stays 3-1 until the Braves pull the goalie late, and its the Walleye finding an empty net to finish off scoring with Robertson.<\/p>\n

Quite the barnburner. 9 lead changes. The last thing you want to see on the play by play against the Raccoons is either Oshies winds up for a shot, or McDavid with a wrister, or Meier takes a shot. The Walleye saw that way too often.<\/p>\n

Without a detailed blow by blow, in summary, a Toledo early lead of 1-2 goals evaporates mid 2nd period, and then its Walleye leads, Raccoons tie, Walleyes lead, Raccoons tie.<\/p>\n

After 6 Raccoon goals (Suzuki, McDavid, Bellemare, Hyman and Oshie 2)
\nand 6 Walleye goals (Saad3, Mangiapanne 2 (yeah that line adjustment did work), Trocheck)<\/p>\n

Charlotte management was determined to build its team this season around Mitch Marner and the right-winger stepped up with a key clutch performance, one that was desperately needed. Marner delivered a hat trick in putting the team on his back, and it proved to be the mathematical difference in a 4-1 Buzzards’ win.<\/p>\n

Marner broke a scoreless tie that extended well into the game. His first goal came with 7:56 left in the second period. He also had a hand in all three third period goals that came after the Inferno’s William Karlsson tied the game 18:25 into the period.<\/p>\n

Marner assisted on what proved to be the game winner just 19 seconds into the third as center Mikael Backlund converted the pass into the net. He added a needed insurance goal with 3:53 left to play, then an empty netter for good measure at 19:12 of the third.<\/p>\n

While things can easily go south for this Charlotte team with plenty of season left, Buzzards’ ownership is proclaiming this victory at this time as its most meaningful in franchise history — by no means a stretch, given the Buzzards’ losing track record in three prior seasons of play.
