Alamo takes to opening faceoff and Crosby puts one in the net 20 seconds into the game. Then the Rangers pour it on firing 16 shots on Smith but it was only a Hertl PP goal that got past him and the 1st period ends 1-1. A spirited 2nd period is punctuated by 3 straight Bathgate goals – Zibanejad, Hertl, and Donski (PP), but it ends up with McAvoy scoring for Alamo the score is 4-2 Rangers after 2. The 3rd period only sees 1 more goal – Bathgate – as Anderson scores a PP goal to bring the final to 5-4 Rangers.<\/p>\n

Alamo took the fight to Bathgate outshooting and then winning 61% of the faceoffs, but their PK did them in and Georgiev stopped 32 SOGS!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Gilbert skates in and again the Rangers opposition scores early as Hornqvist gets the Sharks up 1-0 just past the 1 minute mark. 3 minutes later Buchnevich nets a PP goal for Bathgate to tie up the game. But then Trouba and then Strome go off for 2 minute minors. And first Burakovsky gets a PP goal, and on Strome’s penalty Backstrom gets a PP goal and Gilbert gets a big 3-1 lead after 1.<\/p>\n

But, in the 2nd, it’s the Rangers turn to score 3 times. Panarin gets one early, then Hertl scores a PP goal to tie the game midway through the period and Nugent-Hopkins scores 2 minutes later to grade a 4-3 Bathgate lead after 2.<\/p>\n

3rd period starts and MacKinnon scores 27 seconds into the period and the game is tied up. But the Rangers get their 3rd PP goal of the game at the 7 1\/2 minute mark and then they hold on for dear life keeping the Sharks scoreless the rest of the way. Good thing, since they didn’t score anymore either. Final 5-4 Bathgate!<\/p>\n

And we got 6 PP goals in the 2 games, that’s a nice change.  LA GREAT DANES<\/span><\/th>\n

Both teams are conservative at the start, with only one scoring chance combined in the game’s first 9 minutes. And that chance results in a shorthanded goal by ex-Ranger Claude Giroux on a breakaway. In the second half of the period, Bathgate takes 3 straight hooking penalties. The Great Danes get loads of scoring chances and shots, including 3 on a 1:14 5 on 3 stretch, but no goals, so period one ends with LA up 1-0.<\/p>\n

Donskoi ties the game in the 2nd period’s first minute, and that gives the Rangers some life after that, but LA responds with a goal by Roope Hintz through a maze of bodies in front to put LA up 2-1 midway through the game. The Danes take a couple of late period penalties, with the 2nd one carrying over to the 3rd period. It remains 2-1 after 2 periods.<\/p>\n

The Danes kill off the rest of the carryover penalty and get an odd-man rush as the PK ends, and Tyson Jost scores at 46 seconds to give LA a 3-1 lead. And then at 3:22, William Nylander scores to make it a 4-1 lead. The Danes don’t give Bathgate much room after that, but Ryan Strome beats Varlamov at 12:26 and now we have a game at 4-2. LA settles in defensively again, but Bathgate does not go away and Pavel Buchnevich makes it a one-goal game with a goal ay 18:52. In the last minute, the Rangers seem to have the puck the whole time, but a number of blocked shots and saves allow LA to hold on for the 4-3 win.<\/p>\n

Claude Giroux is the #1 star with 1G-1A, and Jost and Hintz with their goals were the other stars.<\/p>\n

LA’s power play was 0-4, although they generated lots of chances. LA’s league-leading PK unit killed off all 3 Ranger PP’s, and added both a shorthanded goal and another goal 11 seconds after another kill.<\/p>\n

The other difference in the game was face-offs. The Ranger centers were abysmal on face-offs – Zibanejad 4\/19, McCann 1\/14, and Strome 2\/12. Barkov led LA, winning 17 of 19. And fittingly, the game ended when Giroux won a face-off in his zone to end the game.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Great Danes control the 1st period with 16 SOG, keeping the Walleye on their heels, … er fins. Both teams kill off a minor. Barkov gets the lone goal of the period late, and we are 1-0 at the break.<\/p>\n

2nd period sees the shots even up, and the Walleye defense stiffen, as they keep the dogs from adding any more goals. On the other side, the Walleye kill off one penalty, and add goals from Mangiapane and Kempe to flip the lead to their side, 2-1.<\/p>\n

Toledo adds one more from Trocheck 5 minutes in and are feeling a bit better …. until 3 minutes later when Nylander makes it 3-2. The Walleye defense stiffens and hold the visitors scoreless, even with the pulled goalie and 6 on 5 at the end. The Walleye avoid the fade and hang on to win by 1<\/p>\n

Jagr takes a while to get their motors running and it costs them. Walleye get a goal from Hoffman at the midpoint, and take advantage of a PP opportunity late, with a Robertson goal late, to go 2-0 to intermission.<\/p>\n

2nd period sees pretty even play, each team scoring 2 goals. Jagr gets a goal from Kaprizov early, and Weber at the midpoint. Toledo gets goals from Robertson and BAiley. The last 10 minutes is scoreless, and we are 4-2 heading to the 3rd.<\/p>\n

The 3rd period sees each team double up their score. Toledo runs off 3 goals early (Robertson hat trick, Trocheck, Yandle) before Jagr answers with 2 ( Stall, Bergeron). Lindell finishes off the scoring with 8 mintues to go, and the 8-4 score stands.<\/p>\n

\n3rd Period – Scheifele (22) again cuts the lead, 3-2 Bandits. Then a minute and a half later Pavelski (34) again, makes it 4-2! With Varlamov pulled, Barkov (16) slips one past Vasi to pull LA (Elayyyy…) within one goal, but Vasi shuts the door in the final 30 seconds to hold on to the 4-3 victory over the Pacific leading Great Danes!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

The Buzzards, led by two Bryan Rust late-in-game goals that capped the scoring, along with with a superb goaltending performance from Jake Allen (35 saves) downed the Braves 4-1.<\/p>\n

Charlotte prevailed despite being outshot an incredible 36-14 as Allen stopped 28 of 29 shots in the first two periods. A Mitch Marner goal with two minutes left in the first put the Buzzards ahead for good 2-1; Rust added goals that were assisted by Marner in the second and third periods — the latter being a late empty netter with 33 seconds left.<\/p>\n

Yellowknife could only muster a first-period power play goal from Nic Dowd who was playing in his very first game of the year; it tied the contest briefly at 1-1 with 7:04 left in the first period. Marc Andre Fleury struggled for Yellowknife and allowed in three goals on just 13 shots.<\/p>\n

Against Gilbert, Charlotte coaching reflected and made adjustments to more closely match its earlier season lineup when it started the season on a tear — and lo and behold, the changes paid off with a rare offensive-fueled 5-1 win over the Sharks.<\/p>\n

Carter Verhaeghe got the scoring started very early with a goal just 30 seconds in to rattle Sharks goalie Elvis Merzlikins and the Buzzards never relinquished that lead as Brad Marchand followed up with a goal 11 minutes later to put the Buzzards ahead 2-0. Following a Sharks power play goal from Dominik Kubalik with 1:38 left in the first period, the Buzzards responded with a flurry, with three goals 10 minutes into the second period from Bryan Rust, Mitch Marner and Marchand (the first star) to close out the scoring very early in this game.<\/p>\n

Merzilkins was mercifully pulled midway through this contest for Vitek Vanecek (who stopped the bleeding with zero goals against); Merzilkins made just eight saves and allowed all five Buzzards goals to beat him. Meanwhile Chris Driedger gave the Buzzards more exceptional play in the nets and saved 28 shots for the win.<\/p>\n
