Yellowknife Braves
WEEKLY PREVIEW: One home game vs. Alamo
Alamo Defenders @ Yellowknife Braves The Braves hang on 4-3
Stars #1 YEL Monahan 2G 3pts
#2 ALA Stamkos 2G
#3 YEL Tatar 3 assists
WEEKLY SUMMARY: One home game 2pts
Bathgate Rangers
WEEKLY PREVIEW: 2 home games this week – Alamo and Gilbert fly in for the Pacific Division….
Alamo Defenders @ Bathgate Rangers Rangers score 4 times, twice in the 2nd and twice in the 3rd – BUT they get a big dose of Marchand (hat trick) and Stamkos (another hat trick). Two guys in 1 game was TOOOO much. Alamo blasts their way to a 7-4 win.
With all those goals, it was just a lone Marchand goal late in the 1st to get the board to move off goose eggs. But Hertl tied it up early in the 2nd, but then it quieted down. That is until the final 4 minutes of the period as Marchand got his 2nd and Stamkos his first before Hertl got his 2nd and the period ended 3-2 Alamo. Those last 2 were PP goals – and there will be 3 more PP goals in the 3rd.
Ferland ties the game up 20 seconds into the 3rd scoring a PP goal. But just less than 2 minutes later Draisaiti scores (only Alamo guy not named Marchand or Stamkos to score in the game) – and the Defenders were back on top 4-3. But 7 1/2 minutes in, Drouin scores for Bathgate and the game is tied 4-4. But then the Stamkos (2 more goals) and Marchand (1 more goal) dominated the final 12 1/2 minutes. 7-4 for Alamo…
STARS:
1. ALA- Marchand 3 goals, 3 assists (6 points)
2. ALA – Stamkos 3 goals, only 2 assists (5 points)
3. BGR – Hertl 2 goals
Gilbert Sharks @ Bathgate Rangers Rangers come back out to host Gilbert and this time they do somewhat better. They score the 1st 3 goals of the game – 2 from Ryan Strome, his 1st 2 of the year (perhaps he’ll get more playing time). His 2nd goal came early in the 2nd and then Gilbert wakes up – and they score the NEXT 3 – 2 in the 2nd (Atkinson and Domi) and then Atkinson scores a PP goal in the opening minute of the 3rd and it’s tied 3-3! Rangers are letting it slip away.
Well the tie ends with 3 1/2 to go when Donskoi scores. Then Gilbert pulls out all the stops to try and tie it up, and Giroux gets a nice pass for ZBad who got the outlet pass from Provorov and Giroux gets the empty netter to ice the game, 5-3!
STARS: (all BGR)
1. Strome 2 goals
2. Zibanejad 1 goal, 2 assists
3. Giroux 1 goal, 2 assists
WEEKLY SUMMARY: 2 home games, 1 win – about normal, but they were both exciting!
Cincinnati Inferno
WEEKLY PREVIEW: The Cincinnati Inferno have one home game this week, welcoming the Gilbert Sharks to town.
Gilbert Sharks @ Cincinnati Inferno CINCINNATI 6, GILBERT 4

The Sharks turned loose a three goal third period to nearly real in Cincinnati in a 6-4 loss. The Inferno raced to a 5-1 lead after two periods of play.

David Perron had a pair of goals for the Inferno, while Artemi Panarin had a goal and an assist for the Sharks. Brayden Point (1-2-3) had a three-point night for Cincinnati as well.

Connor Hellebuyck (17-10-4) took the win for Cincinnati, turning aside 33 shots. Tukka Rask (8-15-3) had the loss, stopping 21 shots. Sidney Crosby won 16 of the 22 faceoffs he took for the Inferno.

The Sharks were able to capitalize on two of their three power play chances. The Inferno continue to rank dead last in the MWHL in penalty killing at an anemic 69.7%.

WEEKLY SUMMARY: The identity of the Cincinnati Inferno continues to be a mystery. The club ranks second in the MWHL in scoring at 4.10 goals per game, yet the defense has the second-worst goals against average at 4.00. It will be an interesting second half for this club.
LA Great Danes
WEEKLY PREVIEW: One home game with 3 road games this week. The home game versus the Rangers was shifted to Baton Rouge with a pre-game celebration of the LSU Tigers.
Bathgate Rangers @ LA Great Danes The Danes cap off their LSU celebration with a come-from-behind shootout win, 5-4 over the Rangers. It was a wild game with each team having 2 breakaways in regulation, with 3 goals scored on them, 2 by Bathgate and 1 by LA. LA opened the scoring on a Dylan Strome PPG, but the Rangers took a 3-1 lead on breakaway goals by Zibanejad and Vrana along with a Pionk goal. Ehlers got LA within one heading into the 3rd. Waiver pickup Vatanen tied the game on a 2 on 1, and Jamie Benn’s breakaway goal looked to be the winner with under 5 minutes left. But a minute later, Josh Anderson redirected a shot past Frederick Andersen, so we went to OT.

LA had the better of OT play against the Rangers conservative 1F-2D 3 on 3 setup, but no scoring, so on to the shootout. The only goal of the shooutout came from Jamie Benn, who had beaten Halak late in regulation on a breakaway, and he again wristed one past Halak for the game winner.

Zibanejad was the #1 star with 1G-1A. Dylan Strome and Sami Vatanen were given the 2nd and 3rd stars with 1G each, but really Jamie Benn’s late 3rd period goal and shootout game winner should have earned him a star selection, probably the #1 star.

WEEKLY SUMMARY: Dylan Strome’s stat line since being acquired by trade is impressive. In 7 games, Strome has 7G-3A, with points in all 7 games, goals in all but one game, and a goal in 5 straight games.
Jagr Mullets
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Just one home game this week.
Yellowknife Braves @ Jagr Mullets The Mullets roll the dice and rest 7 starters – will it backfire?

Almost… both teams combine for 5 goals in the 3rd, but 3 of those belong to Jagr as they win it 5-4. Kuemper is shaky in goal but still pulls off his 24th victory on the season.

Brentwood Bandits
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Two home games. Despite some less than stellar home games lately, we’re still in the playoff hunt. So maybe Tavares and Co. are just gonna ride it out. We shall see!
Charlotte Buzzards @ Brentwood Bandits The Bandits keep Tarasenko and Pavelski relatively in check and win in OT on a goal by Brodie (6) with a final score of 4-3.

Debrusk scores 2 in the win and Murray saves 38 of 41.

LA Great Danes @ Brentwood Bandits The Bandits score 5 unanswered goals before LA makes it interesting in the 3rd by scoring 2. Josi (6) gives the Bandits their 4 goal lead back, but Bonino (Boninoboninobonino) scores to make it a 3 goal lead again which is where it ended 6-3.

Debrusk scored 2 again. #29 and #30. Murray saves 33 in back to back solid starts.

WEEKLY SUMMARY: Two wins at home and the grumblings of the Playoffs are being heard in the halls. Coach Tom Atkins said that he is tired of being asked whether or not Tavares, Kessel, etc. are on the trade block. He said “Jagr is the cream of the crop this year, but anything can happen in the playoffs”
Lafayette Homesteaders
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Just LA this week…
LA Great Danes @ Lafayette Homesteaders 7 players score for the Steaders and they hold on to win 8-5

Charlotte Buzzards @ Bucks County Raccoons Connor McDavid scores the only goal of the game mid way through the 2nd period as the Bucks County Raccoons shut out the Charlotte Buzzards 1-0. Jack Cambell recoreds his 2nd shutout of the season while stopping all 39 Charlotte shots.

Toledo Walleye
WEEKLY PREVIEW: The new look Walleye host LA and Jagr this week. Rookie Elias Pettersson out with injury this week. So its kind of the old look new look Walleye. On second thought, with Robert Thomas, the other rookie filling in, its the new look, old look, new look Walleye on the ice this week.
LA Great Danes @ Toledo Walleye Walleye 4, LA 3 – LA on the board first, with the Nurse scoring just 6 minutes in. Period meanders to the end, and just before we go to intermission, Backstrom scores on the powerplay, and we are tied at 1.

2nd period – This time Toledo takes the lead on a goal by van Riemsdyk, answered a couple minutes later by Strome, making it 2-2. The Walleye recover 4 minutes later as Vanek gets #11 this season, and its 3-2 home team at intermission.

3rd period, the suspense continues when Vatanen ties the game at 3 just one minute in. But the suspense is short-lived when Mantha breaks the tie with 18 minutes to go, 4-3 Walleye. After that, a number of close ones by each team, buts its goalie domination the rest of the way, and the Walleye hang on for the win.

1st star – Backstrom 1g 2pts
2nd – van Riemsdyk 1g 2pts
