---|---|
WEEKLY PREVIEW: | Chicago with only 2 home games this week & none on the road hope for the maximum points at home, but who knows how it will turn out. |
Yellowknife Braves @ Chicago Cosa Nostra |
Yellowknife rolls in and trashes the locker room with their rowdiness. They play tough on the ice, but Chicago notches 2 more Goals than the Braves.
Final Score: Chicago 5 – Yellowknife 3 Labatt’s 3-Star Selection: GWG: Pierre-Luc Dubois Notables: |
Bucks County Raccoons @ Chicago Cosa Nostra |
After a scoreless 1st Period the Raccoons get a Goal early in the 2nd & another about 6-Minutes into the 3rd. Chicago can only muster up a Power-Play Goal mid-way through the 3rd. The Raccoons gain 2 valuable Points over the Cosa Nostra in the Central Division
Final Score: Bucks County 2 – Chicago 1 Labatt’s 3-Star Selection: GWG: Evander Kane Notables: |
WEEKLY SUMMARY: | 2 Points out of a possible 4 points at home, but the loss to Bucks County puts chances of catching them for the Division virtually impossible. |
New Jersey Black Aces | |
---|---|
WEEKLY PREVIEW: | 2 games in week 18 |
Brentwood Bandits @ New Jersey Black Aces |
Brentwood wins, 3-1 |
Jagr Mullets @ New Jersey Black Aces |
Jagr wins , 3-2 |
WEEKLY SUMMARY: | 2 close game and 2 losses for NJ |
Bathgate Rangers | |
---|---|
WEEKLY PREVIEW: | Division play continues and the Rangers are working hard toward their first playoff appearance but they need to keep winning to stay up on Brentwood – and at the same time, try to catch Jagr! Home games this week are against the mean New Jersey Black Aces and the hickster Mulletts from Jagr!! |
New Jersey Black Aces @ Bathgate Rangers |
The Black Aces usually give us fits and fight tough defensive games. So the Rangers want to change that and two early 1st period NJ penalties get the Round Garden crowd fired up as the Rangers capitalize on both with goals from Vrana and Nugent-Hopkins. Right after the Nugent-Hopkins goal McDonagh gets sent to the box for a roughing call and the Rangers have a 3rd PP. But the Black Aces shut this one down and as it ends Cirelli scores for New Jersey. Then as the period draws to a close, Cirelli scores again and the 1st period ends 2-2. Man, we had them where we wanted them – guess it was where they wanted us….
Period 2 opens and midway through, Provorov goes off for cross-checking and Labanc gets the big PP goal to put the Black Aces up 3-2 and that’s how the 2nd ends. 3rd PERIOD – quiet for 6+ minutes but then the Rangers wake up and basically score 1 goal in each of the next 4 minutes -Buchnevich(6:40), Vrana (7:36); Hertl (8:18), and Giroux (9:09) and the Rangers found themselves up 6-3! But Garland scores 14 seconds after the Giroux goal to cut it back to 6-4. Hertl however, closed the door with an empty netter in the last 30 seconds and Bathgate skates off the 7-4 winners! |
Jagr Mullets @ Bathgate Rangers |
Rangers tried not to look ahead at this one and when the Round Garden finally opened up for them to arrive, you could tell they were on edge and excited. And what followed is what has become a classic game in a tight series.
1st Period belonged to the Rangers as ZBad scores early and Tatar adds a PP goal late in the period. Jagr couldn’t beat Halak. Halak remained unscathed throughout the 2nd until the final 34 seconds when Mathews win a faceoff in the Rangers end, it goes to Svechnikov who feeds OYUCHKIN, who shoots – and Mathews deflects it right past Halak and the 2nd period ends 2-1 Rangers. 3rd Period – the Rangers regain the 2 goal edge when Tatar gets his 2nd goal of the game but the are still a bit over 12 to play. And sure enough, Jagr comes a callin’ and Pionk is whistled for hooking. While he’s off, Tkachuk beats Halak for a PP goal and it’s a 1 goal game again, 3-2 Rangers. But then Radulov is called for charging a couple of minutes later and ZBad responds with a Rangers PP goal and a 4-2 lead. Is it enough?? |
WEEKLY SUMMARY: | Rangers keep marching on and hope the road is as kind – 2 games, 4 points! |
California Regulators | |
---|---|
Alamo Defenders @ California Regulators |
California beats Alamo in OT, 4-3. |
Alamo Defenders | |
---|---|
WEEKLY PREVIEW: | Alamo hosts LA and Gilbert this week. |
LA Great Danes @ Alamo Defenders |
In the 1st period, Roslovic scores his 3rd goal of the season for the Great Danes. In the 2nd period, Schenn scores his 20th goal of the season. The Great Danes play some great defense and earn a shutout.
LA 2 Alamo 0 1st – Varlamov 35 saves |
Gilbert Sharks @ Alamo Defenders |
In the 1st period, Fiala scores no. 20 for the Sharks. It’s 1-0 after 1 period.
Alamo gets on the board in period no. 2 on a Severson goal. The scoring is closed out as Fox breaks the tie for the Sharks. Great defense by the Sharks as they win the 2-1 game. Gilbert 2 Alamo 1 1st – Fiala 1 goal |
WEEKLY SUMMARY: | Alamo has a miserable two games and only scores one goal. Only Severson scores. LA and Gilbert with the sweep. |
Thunder Bay Nor’Westers | |
---|---|
WEEKLY PREVIEW: | Only 1 home game this week vs Portland. |
Portland Storm @ Thunder Bay NorWesters |
1st Period Portland leads 3-1 on goals by Backlund (14), Zuccarello (15 and Dvorak (7). Thunder Bay’s only goal by rookie defenseman Hronek (5)
2nd Period Thunder bay rallies back with 3 unanswered goals to gain a 4-3 lead. Goals by O’Reilly(13), Necas(26), Bertuzzi(11). 3rd Period is a toe to toe brawl – No defense as Portland score 3 but Thundar Bay scores 4 Final score Portland 6 Thunder Bay 8 3rd period goals for Portland – Palat (10), Dvorak (8) and Brown (9) Jack Hughes younger brother of Quinn Hughes is called up from Duluth and scores the game winning goal in his 1st MWHL game. |
WEEKLY SUMMARY: | If we play Jagr in the play-offs the Over/Under could be 19. |
LA Great Danes | |
---|---|
WEEKLY PREVIEW: | Home games versus California and Gilbert. Final games for Alex Pietrangelo, a victim of LA’s rebuild as his contract was bought out earlier in the week. |
California Regulators @ LA Great Danes |
The Danes’ 4th line is +3 in the first period, and LA holds a 3-0 lead on goals by Pietrangelo, Henrique, and Barbashev. No scoring in the 2nd as Elvis Merzlikins dominates with 19 saves in the period.
It takes California 51 minutes to solve Elvis, but after Barzal scores, Patrick Kane follows with another goal 12 seconds later. Jack Roslovic puts LA back up by a 4-2 score, but Kane again responds quickly for Cal 23 seconds after the Rolsovic goal to make it 4-3. Sam Reinhart ties the game with just under a minute left and we go to OT. Right after Ehlers rings a shot off the crossbar, Patrick Kane completes California’s comeback and wins the game with a hat trick overtime game winner. California solidifies their division lead with Patrick Kane’s hat trick leading the way. Barzal with 1G-2A and Reinhart with 1G-1A are the other stars of the game for California. |
Gilbert Sharks @ LA Great Danes |
Nathan MacKinnon opens the scoring for Gilbert with a breakaway goal, and Alex Pietrangelo evens the score off a 2 on 1, and we end period one tied one apiece. In the second, youngsters Chytl and Glass score their first goals of the year for the Danes. In between the goals by the kids, veteran Joe Thornton scores for Gilbert, so LA takes a 3-2 lead into the third.
For the second straight game, LA cannot hold a third period lead. Krug, Keller, Keller again, and Panarin into the empty net score for Gilbert, and LA’s only goal in the 3rd comes from William Nylander. Gilbert comes away with a 6-4 win. Keller’s two goals earn him the #1 star, and MacKinnon and Krug are the other stars with 1G-1A each. |
WEEKLY SUMMARY: | Eight goals scored in the 2 home games for the Great Danes but no wins. Alex Pietrangelo scores in each of his final 2 games, giving him 10 goals on the season after not scoring his first goal until game #40.
The pups are getting more playing time down the stretch, and good to see Chytl and Glass get their first goals. Jack Roslovic also now has 4 goals on the year in just 8 games. |
Cincinnati Inferno | |
---|---|
WEEKLY PREVIEW: | The Cincinnati Inferno, leaders of the Atlantic Division, welcome all three of the other members to The Incinerator this week. |
Charlotte Buzzards @ Cincinnati Inferno |
CHA 3, CIN 1
The Buzzards get a pair of first period goals from Dylan Larkin (9.10) and are able to use solid goaltending from Jake Allen to take the 3-1 win. Allen stopped 21 shots to take the win, as Charlotte raced to a 3-0 lead early in the game and then held off Cincinnati the rest of the way. The Inferno won the shots battle, 22-19, while the Buzzards went one-for-five on the power play — while limiting Cincinnati to a one-for-four conversion rate. Connor Hellbuyck stopped 16 shots in the losing effort. |
Thunder Bay NorWesters @ Cincinnati Inferno |
TBN 1, CIN 0
Todd Bertuzzi’s shorthanded goal at 3:14 of the third period was the lone goal of the contest, as Thunder Bay skated off with a 1-0 win. Mikko Koskinen earned the win with 16 saves, while Connor Hellebuyck kicked out 11 shots in the defeat. In another low shot attempt game, the NorWesters won the shots battle, 16-12. Neither team was able to muster a power play goal, as Cincinnati was blanked in five tries and Thunder Bay in four. |
Portland Storm @ Cincinnati Inferno |
CIN 3, POR 1
Portland was thwarted in its bid to make it a sweep of visiting teams at The Incinerator this week. Tyler Seguin’s goal off a Storm turnover at 7:59 of the third proved to be game winner. Cam Talbot stopped 15 shots for the win, while Carter Hutton turned away 13 in the loss. The shots were even at 16 apiece and both teams were blanked on the power play. Cincinnati being shutout in four tries, while Portland had both its efforts snuffed. |
WEEKLY SUMMARY: | Interesting week for the Cincinnati Inferno. Limited to just four goals and holding the opposition to five nets a 1-2-0 record. The power play unit goes 1-for-13 and the Atlantic Division race now tightens even more, as Thunder Bay is a single win from tying things up. |
Toledo Walleye | |
---|---|
WEEKLY PREVIEW: | The Raccoons come to Toledo for some hockey, and a snack at Tony Packo’s |
Bucks County Raccoons @ Toledo Walleye |
Bucks County 5, Toledo 2 – A fairly disorganized 1st period for the Raccoons, or what we call normal for the Walleye. Both teams kill off one penalty, and we go to intermission scoreless.
2nd period – Walleye finish a PK that started in the previous period, successfully, only to see Oshie score as Johnson comes back on the ice and the team gets (dis)organized. Each team kills off one more before Mantha gets called for hooking, and Kane takes advantage of an opening to make it 2-0. On to the 3rd. 3rd period – Toledo pumps some hope into the crowd early when Pete gets his 32nd of the season, and the arena gets some life. That all comes to an end minutes later when Johansen gets an insurance goal, and then Kane adds one more after Mantha gets called for tripping. 4-1 with 13 minutes to go. Oshie gets caught hooking, and Hoffman cuts the lead to 2 on the powerplay. The Walleye can’t get any momentum going, and the game drifts toward the final horn. The Walleye pull the goalie in a final last gasp, and Chara takes advantage to get his 4th of the season with the empty net. 1st star – Kane 2G 3pts |
WEEKLY SUMMARY: | Bucks County comes in and shows the Walleye who’s boss. Now off to Packo’s for some grub before the bus heads out. |

WEEKLY PREVIEW: | Bucks County wraps up 5 weeks of divisional play with home games against Yellowknife and pesky Toledo |
Yellowknife Braves @ Bucks County Raccoons |
Conner McDavid leads with a goal and an assist and Anton Khudobin stops 28 of 29 shots as the Bucks County Raccoons defeat the Yellowknife Braves 3-1. TJ Oshie tallied his 37th goal in the win and BCR had 21 scoring changes to the Braves 7. |
Toledo Walleye @ Bucks County Raccoons |
Bucks County got 2 early goals in the 1st period and led all the way in a 4-1 victory over the Toledo Walleye. Toledo cut the lead to 3-1 on a Backstrom goal in the 3rd period, but TJ Oshie notched his 38th goal on the PP with 3 minutes left to clinch the victory. Anton Khudobin stopped 39 of 40 SOG for BCR. |
WEEKLY SUMMARY: | Two division home games, 4 points in the bucket. The BCR penalty killers went 11 for 11 on the PK, 5 of which came against the best PP in the league in Yellowknife. |
Gilbert Sharks | |
---|---|
WEEKLY PREVIEW: | Another huge week for Gilbert’s slim playoff hopes with 2 against Division leader California and 1 against Alamo |
Alamo Defenders @ Gilbert Sharks |
Gilbert starts off well in the 1st with goals from Kubalik and Fiala to take a 2-0 lead. Jason Zucker adds one in the 2nd to pad the lead to 3-0. Alamo comes storming back in the 3rd with goals from Marchand and Draisaitl but Gilbert hangs on for the 3-2 win. |
California Regulators @ Gilbert Sharks |
Staal gets California going in the first 2 minutes but Kubalik ties it up midway through the 1st period. Stone quickly gives California back the lead 2-1 but Danault ties it again. Before the 1st period ends though, Staal scores his 2nd of the game and at the end of 1 it is already 3-2 California. Things settle down in the 2nd with Huberdeau extending Cali’s lead to 2. Fiala scores early in the 3rd to bring Gilbert within 1, but Kane puts one home midway through the period and the lead is once again 2. Gilbert makes one more run with a goal from Panarin but California hangs on for the 5-4 win. |
California Regulators @ Gilbert Sharks |
Gilbert knows they absolutely need this one but it is Cali who lights the lamp first by Reinhart. With about 5 minutes left in the 1st the action gets wild as Hedman scores for Gilbert, then 1 1/2 minutes later California gets goals from Huberdeau and Kane within 20 seconds of each other. Undeterred Gilbert gets a goal from Tkachuk and for the 2nd straight game the score is 3-2 at the end of the 1st. Just the like the 1st game Cali gets the only goal of Period 2 from Gaudreau and takes a 2 goal lead into the 3rd. Gilbert would not go down without a fight though and goals from Coyle, Fiala, and Panarin by the midway point of Period 3 have Gilbert up 1 and smelling the upset. With just over 5 minutes left, Spurgeon ties it again for California. That would take us to the end of regulation and the 3 on 3 passes without any scores so we go to the shootout. Kane is up first for California and he shoots wide of the net! Kubalik is up first for Gilbert and he scores! Huberdeau is next for California and Francouz makes the stop! One of the best players in the league with a chance to win it for Gilbert and Mackinnon scores to give Gilbert the win! |
WEEKLY SUMMARY: | 2 out of 3 against the division’s best keep hope alive for the Sharks |
