After their best week of the season Hampton going 4-0 Hampton has another two games at home versus Pacific Division rivals Scottsdale and Long Beach.

| Game #1: | The Blizzard could have used a few lions in the rink as the zebras definitely were not on their side. Six consecutive minor penalties called on the Blizzard between the 1st and 2nd periods kept them from amounting any offense, but while they were able to hold the X-men scoreless on the power play they couldn’t keep them off the scoreboard at even strength. Giordano counted his 8th of the year midway through the first to give the X-men the lead in a period in which Scottsdale dominated outshooting Hampton 13-4 with the Blizzard not getting their first shot on netminder Jake Allen until 9 minutes into the game. The game complexion turned the Hampton way in the 2nd period. Once they’d killed off the last of the minor penalties they swarmed the X-men outshooting them 12-2 and evening up the score 1-1 on McGinn’s 9th of the year late in the period on the power play. Only 30 seconds later though that little punk sumnovabitch Connor McDavid raced in and casually flicked a puck past Brian Elliott to give the X-men back the lead. The 3rd period was awesome and would have been a great one to see live as Hampton and Scottsdale counted 34 shots in the period (Hampton getting the edge 19-15), but the only goal coming off the stick of Andy Greene of Scottsdale celebrating his 1st of the season on the empty Hampton goal. A great although at times frustrating game ends 3-1 in favor of the X-men. |
| Game #2: | Hampton’s trouble with the officials continued into the game against Long Beach who had three consecutive power plays in the 1st period. On one of these power plays the Ice Dogs registered nine of their first period 18 shots on Brian Elliott, but he was equal to the task flopping around reminiscent of Dominik Hasek. Power plays be damned … the instruction from the Hampton bench was to pour on the pressure and look for an opening cuz Elliott would hold off the deluge. And amazingly it worked. With the Ice Dogs buzzing all around the Hampton net, Filip Forsberg and Paul Stastny broke loose and raced up ice feeding the puck back to the trailer on the play – Aaron Ekblad – who beat Long Beach goalie Cam Talbot up high to make it 1-0 Hampton while short-handed. The lead lasted six minutes when fricking Nazem Kadri picked up a loose puck and fed it back to the point where Adam Larsson launched a Hale Mary drive that banked in off the post and behind Elliott. It was Larsson’s 1st goal of the season and Kadri’s first point … albeit in his first game of the season. Vincent Trocheck tallied the only goal of the 2nd period on the power play when he connected with Patric Hornqvist to give Hampton the lead and the two hooked up with the muchly maligned Mike Ribeiro (farting noise back at those who poo-pooed his being drafted) who fired home his 5th of the season to make it 3-1 Hampton. Despite a crazy empty net flurry with Long Beach almost scoring several times within the last two minutes of the game and Hampton unable to get a shot through to the goalie-less net, the game ended that way 3-1 with Elliott having stopped 39 of 40 shots. Talbot was no slouch either blocking 31 of 34 and but for a couple of lucky Hampton bounces could have pushed the game into overtime. |

| Game #1: | Today Wausau and the New Jersey Grizzlies square off. In the first New Jersey was quickly putting Wausau on its heels but it wasn’t until Henrik Sedin won a faceoff to Victor Arvidsson who was able toi send the puck to Dustin Byfuglien who in return netted his 13th goal of the season. Thru 1 New Jersey leads 1-0. Early in second Carrie Underwood’s favorite player Mike Fisher was able to get Wausau on the board. After a some tic-tac-toe Grizzlies and MWHL top defenseman Dustin Byfuglien nets his second and slides NJ back into the lead. New Jersey’s defense has seen the light Hampus Lindholm got off the shied with his second goal of the season. Keith Kinkaid struggled with a deflection shot by Mats Zuccarello which has brought Wausau within 1 goal, 3-2 NJ. In the third New Jersey had a few chances but it was Claude Giroux who tied the game and put the pressure on New Jersey. Ondrej Palat beat Kinkaid on the Powerplay which gave Wausau the lead 4-3 Corey Perry added some insurance and the lead goes to 5-3 Wausau. | Game #2: | New Jersey and division rival Thunder Bay match up here at the Rock. In the first New Jersey was looking to get after Thunder Bay since the loss to Wausau upset and angered head coach Scott Stevens who made some clear lineup adjustments. Kyle Okposo heard coach Stevens clearly and pressed and was able to give New Jersey the early lead. 1-0 New Jersey will take the lead into the first intermission. The game stayed in favor of New Jersey until 2:10 left in the 3rd when Gustav Nyquist was able to beat Cory Schneider. 1-1 tie, lets see the finish. In a uneventful game for scoring but the goalies James Riemer and Cory Schneider like heavyweights battled in the pipes. | Game #1: | In what turned out to be a painful lesson for the Hampton coach in resisting hitting the Aggressive button, the Blizzard were lucky to score three power play goals within span of four minutes as they came from behind to steal one 5-4 from Indiana. Mark Streit has been a thorn in Hampton’s side all season and this game was no different as he continued to score almost at will against the Blizzard and in this one potted the opening goal at 3:46 of the 1st period on a beautiful setup by Koivu. Mikael Backlund evened this up a couple of minutes later in what would turn out to be a huge game for the Hampton 4th liners. Mike Cammalleri got his 2nd point of the night when he set up Williams at 1:43 of the 2nd period on the power play which gave Indiana back the lead. Once again, the Hampton 4th line came through this time with Andrew Killorn knocking in a rebound past Roberto Luongo to even it up at 2-2. Indiana retook the lead (thank you Aggressive Button) a minute later on a backhander by Bergeron that beat Elliott stick side. Cue the penalty trouble for Indiana … Late in the 2nd period with Toews off for holding, Indiana had a sloppy line change that resulted in too many men on the ice and a 90 second 2-man advantage for Hampton. Thank you very much! Vincent Trocheck’s slapshot from point blank range made it 3-3 and then Andrew Shaw tallied by firing in a rebound from the faceoff circle in an almost empty net. Aaron Ekblad completed the power play goal fest with a booming shot from the blueline two minutes into the 3rd period to make it 5-3 for Hampton.For the third time in the game, a stupid coaching decision to push too hard (Aggressive attack once again) resulted in a mid-ice turnover and a van Riemsdyk goal from just inside the blue line to make it 5-4. Indiana pulled the goalie, but apart from monopolizing the game narrative for about 75 seconds couldn’t do much else and it ended with Hampton taking it 5-4. Another great back and forth game with plenty of offense (128 attempted shots in the game!) and blocked shots (25 by Indiana including 6 by McQuaid and 5 by W Mitchell). First and second stars went to 4th liners Backlund (1 goal, 2 assists)and Killorn (1 goal, 1 assist). Andrew Shaw, the remaining 4th line winger, got an honorable mention with a goal and an assist of his own. |

Ekman-Larsson (1:06 in), Bieksa, and then Marleau at 18:38 (PP).19 seconds later, Lakeland gets on the board before the 1st period ends as Rostolainen scores from Seabrook (11) and Ladd (15) to make it 3-1 Brentwood going into the 2nd.14 seconds into the 2nd Ladd scores his 11th to cut the Brentwood lead to 3-2. Malkin gets the lead back for Brentwood with his 10th assisted by Crosby (21) and Manson (4). 4-3 Bandit lead. Can they hang on? to calm down and stop seeking retribution for every little hit and slash. If the don’t, we won’t be making it far in the playoffs… if we’re lucky enough to make the playoffs, that is.” |

Leagues worst defense hosts 2 games this week against division rivals. Lakeland, trying to gain on high flying Jagr, and serious rival Columbus are the home games for the Rangers.

Lakeland comes out firing landing 11 shots on net in the 1st and 2 of them go in. But the Rangers don’t give and out shoot the Flying Tigers 18-7 in the 2nd and it results in a 3-1 scoring advantage for the Rangers and the game is knotted after 2 at 3-3. 2 of the Ranger goals were PP, Kane and Tierney. Lakeland’s 2nd period goal is also a PP (Oshie). Shoots drop to 13 total in the 3rd as the game becomes a defensive struggle but by the 10 minute mark, the Flying Tigers had slipped two past Rinne and come away with a 5-3 win. 3 STARS (all Lakeland) Staal has another good game in the faceoff circle winning 18 of them, Russell gets 6 blocks and a few bruises. |
| Game #2: | The Brew Jackets come to Madison Round Garden for the 2nd time and 3rd meeting of the year – the Rangers won the first two and hope to keep that streak going (gotta have something positive and this would be a good one!).Rangers take advantage of a Kucherov penalty (tripping at 10:29) as Benn connects from the point for a PP goal and a 1-0 lead. Then Tierney is called for interference, the 4th Rangers penalty in the 1st period, and Couture finally gets the Brew Jackets PP working as he puts one past Rinne to tie the game 1-1. Columbus was gunning for more as they fire 22 shots on goal in the 1st.A lot of shots were fired on goal, 9 for Columbus, 14 for Bathgate, in the 2nd but Rinne and Crawford held firm. Going to the 3rd it’s still 1-1.The 3rd period slows down to a defensive struggle and it’s still tied midway through the final period but Tierney gets one from McCann and Marincin and deflects it past Crawford for the go ahead goal at 12:24. 4 minutes later Bouma gets his 1st goal of the year for some insurance and Rinne is able to make the 3-1 lead stick and the Rangers get their 3rd win in 3 games vs. Columbus.3 STARS (all Rangers) 1. Rinne 35 saves 2. Benn 1 G 3. Bouma 1 GStaal again does the faceoff thing winning 18 (Rangers won 71.7% of them in the game). Russell adds to his bruise collection blocking 7 shots. |

No idea what happened in the Nor’Westers locker room but they came back and scored 5 unanswered goals in the 2nd period. Tatar (7), Sheahan (1), Smith (5), O’Reilly (8), and at 19:31 Nyquist (4). Thunder Bay 6 Bathgate 3 after 40 minutes. Almost afraid of what will happen in the final stanza.Bathgate opens with a goal by Tierney (5) but Thunder Bay answers on Sheahan’s 2nd of the game and the season. Bathgate gets a final tally by McCann but the final is 7-5 Thunder Bay.The three goalies who played were awful. |

Minnesota comes to town and skates off with a 2-1 victory. All of their scoring comes courtesy of Ales Hemsky, who pots his 5th and 6th on the season. The lone Mullet goal is by Steven Stamkos (14) on the PP. Both goalies (Neuvirth/Matt Murray), and even though Jagr outshot the Deep Freeze 38-29 and won 63.8% of their faceoffs, the Deep Freeze get the W thanks to Hemsky’s heroics.

| Game #2: | California is up next in a battle of 1st place teams. Both goalies (Pickard and Bishop) are quite leaky — CAL roars out to a 4-1 lead before we even reach the halfway point (3 PP goals by Beauchemin, Gadreau, and Komorov). Jagr’s lone goal during that stretch is an even strengh one by Pavelski (12). Then Jagr shows signs of life as Abdelkader (11) scores at 12:52 of the 2nd to cut the difference. Reinhardt (6) scores what should have been a back-breaker at 2:27 of the 3rd on the PP. But Jagr roars back with a goal from Jordan Staal (8) at 7:52 and then another goal by Staal (9) at 19:11 with the goalie pulled. Suddenly it’s 5-4! The Mullets frantically try to get the tying goal, but Gadreau (10) puts in the empty-netter to seal the deal. Jagr was able to keep Ovie in check, holding him to 2 assists on the 6 Regulator goals. |
| Game #3: | It’s a brother rivalry as Brentwood comes to town! Joe Pavelski wastes no time in torching Marc-Andre Fleury, scoring his 13th one minute into the game. Things settle down, but The Big Pavelski decides he’s still hungry – and he puts his 14th behind MAF to give the Mullets a 2-0 lead at 9:15. There will be no natural hat trick though, as Ekman-Larsson scores on a short-handed breakaway 13:17 to cut the lead in half. At 3:40 of the 2nd, Parenteau beats Bishop and suddenly we’re all tied up! It must have rattled Mr. Bishop, as Evgeni Malkin pots one 17 seconds later to give Brentwood their first lead of the game. At 15:49, Matt Cullen scores his 4th on the season to knot the game up at 3. A barnburner! That score holds up until 18:37, when Pavelski scores a PP goal for the HAT TRICK and to take a 4-3 lead. Can the Bandits come back? Brentwood throws the kitchen sink at Bishop, but he stands tall to preserve the 4-3 victory. Jagr salvages 2 of a possible 6 points on the homestand, and Hainsey is going to be a lonely guy on the busride to the airport as his penalty led to Pavelski’s GWG goal and hat trick. |

The normall defensively sound Mullets score and give up a bunch of goals on this homestand, and their loss of identity results in a 1-2 finish.

Long Beach (15-11-0-2) hosts Lakeland (12-13-0-3). In his first game of the year Shattenkirk keyed the Long Beach offense with 2 goals. Perron also had a pair in the Ice Dogs 5-4 win.

Long Beach (16-11-0-2) hosts Scottsdale (12-16-0). Scottsdale dominated the early part of the game. They couldn’t take advantage of a wide shot margin and 2 missed penalty shots and trailed 2-1 after 2 periods. They tied the score on a Giordano goal with 5 minutes left to send the game to OT. We went to a shootout with Draisaitl scoring the only goal to give Long Beach a 3-2 win.

Alamo responds as newly acquired Jannik Hansen scores his 10th goal of the year. There were no goals in the 3rd period. Alamo vastly outshoots California in this game 54 shots to 27. But, in reality, Holtby is better than Hammond. In the shootout, it’s 1-1, the 3rd shooter is Zibanejad, and he makes good on the shot for the Regulators. Seguin misses a wrist shot for Alamo. California pulls it out in a shootout, 2-1.1st star – Holtby – 53 saves! 2nd star – Hansen – 1 goal. 3rd star – Faulk – 1 goal. |

| Game #1: | Wild first period as Second City scores two goals in the opening four minutes. Tavares (Panarin and Palmieri) and Panarin (Palmieri and Tavares) put the home side up 2-0. Bathgate comes back with a goal from Marincin (Klingberg and McCann) to make it 2-1. Chiefs get another from Tavares (Palmieri) to make it 3-1. But right back come the visitors with goals from Kane (Benn, Klingberg) and Benn (Kane, Klingberg) and we are tied at three after the first. Lone goal in the 2nd period is from the Chiefs Atkinson (Benn, Tavares) Bathgate ties it up in the third on Zajac’s 7th goal of the year (Marincin and Donskoi) and we head to overtime. Sergei Bobrovsky gets a rare start in net for the Deep Freeze tonight. The game would start out back and forth, but Minneapolis would strike first on Hoffman’s 8th of the year about 6 minutes in when Getzlaf set him up for a hard shot from the slot. A few minutes later with James Neal in the box for roughing Minneapolis would try to extend the lead but Johnson stood tall and blocked all 4 Minneapolis shots on the powerplay. As the penalty ends, Neal (8) creates an odd-man rush for the Suds and is able to tie the game at 1. Despite powerplay attempts for each team, the score would remain tied at 1 to end the first period. 3 Minutes into the second period with Hartnell in the box for interference, Minneapolis took a 2-1 lead when Sedin fed Boyle for a hard one-timer which Doan (6) was able to skillfully deflect past Johnson into the back of the net. Just a few minutes later, Eriksson picks up a loose puck behind the Deep Freeze net and carries it all the way down into the Corktown zone. He gets it over to Datsyuk who plays it back to Sedin at the point, and Sedin (7) rifles a shot past Johnson to give Minneapolis a 3-1 lead with 12:49 left in the 2nd. Hoffman and Getzlaf would get loose with a 2-on-1 and extend the Minneapolis lead to 4-1 on Hoffman’s 7th of the year with at 6:18 of the 2nd. Markov took a tripping penalty for the Deep Freeze and Corktown would generate a number of chances on the powerplay but Bobrovsky stood tall stopping all Corktown would get back on the board with 12:31 left to play when Tarasenko (8) beat Bobrovsky on a one-timer from Eichel and Harnell. The Suds’ aggressive play would result in 3 powerplays for the Deep Freeze, but Lehtonen held his ground and stopped all 11 shots he faced in the 3rd period. Minneapolis holds on to win 6-2. Minneapolis hopes to keep the ball rolling after the dominant victory against Corktown. After almost 15 scoreless minutes including several powerplays and 9 shots for each team, Columbus opened the scoring on P.K. Subban’s 4th of the year. Barely a minute later Minneapolis tied it up when Brassard tipped Markov’s shot past an out of position Crawford for his team-leading 12th goal of the year. The first period would end with the score tied at 1, Minneapolis outshooting Columbus 15-9. The 2nd period would belong to the goaltenders, with each standing tall on multiple odd man rushes and breakaways. Columbus out shot Minneapolis 10-8 in the period but the score would remain tied 1-1 entering the 3rd. You can feel the intensity in the building entering the 3rd after two closely contested periods. After killing off a Corktown powerplay, Minneapolis turns up the pressure and controls the puck in the Columbus zone for the better part of a couple minutes, causing Subban to take an interference penalty. Less than a minute into the penalty kill, Brian Gionta took a hooking call, giving Minneapolis an extended 5-on-3 powerplay. Minneapolis made Columbus pay for their transgressions, with Eriksson (12) tipping a hard shot from Seidenberg past Crawford only 16 seconds later. Barely a minute later Minneapolis would do it again on a nearly identical play – this time with Eriksson tipping Schmidt’s shot for his team-leading 13th of the season at 11:04 of the 3rd period. Minneapolis leads 3-1. The teams would trade powerplays in the latter half of the 3rd period but neither team would be able to capitalize. With less than 2 minutes to play, Couturier (2) gets free on the rush with Schenn and Hemsky and puts it past Crawford to give Minneapolis the 4-1 lead. Columbus would win the ensueing faceoff, take it straight down the ice, and Burns would score his 12th of the year from Nash and Subban to pull the Brew Jackets within 2. We play a scoreless OT period. In the shootout Corey Perry get the game winning goal.

Going into overtime at 3-3 it looked like the first team with the puck would win, but the goalies stepped up big in the OT period sending it to a shootout. Crawford seemed to use all his energy in OT as he let in shots from the first two Defender shooters (Marchand and Pacioretty) while Lehner kept his shot blocking going. The X-Men got a boost from an expected source. 3rd string goalie Scott Darling came ready to play and stopped 42 of 43 shots to bring home a victory over Thunder Bay by a score of 2-1. Though only able to muster 26 shots on goal, both Milan Lucic and Brandon Dubinsky were able to find the back of the net sneaking them by Thunder Bay goalie James Reimer.
