Bathgate Rangers
Weekly Preview:
Rangers have 1 home game this week and a road game at Indiana. We hope to keep them close at least.
Game #1: When you have the worst record in the league everyone is better than you. The Grizzles of NJ are playing very well, knocking on the door for the Atlantic lead behind high flying Hampton. In this game they use stellar defense stopping 36 of 37 shots and blocking another 21! Schneider earns 1st Star with those 36 saves.  Skinnner got the minimal scoring started with 3:34 to play in the 1st. Lupul ties it up at the 9 minute mark of period 2 with a PP goal, but Turris returns the feat with a PP goal at the 17:10 mark. Both teams hunker down on defense in the 3rd – NJ took 4 shots in that effort but the Rangers fired 12 on goal but no biscuits in the basket.
NJ gets the 2-1 win. Star 2 – Skinner 1 G, Turris 1 Goal
Game #2: On the road at Indiana, and the Sycamores open with 3 in the 1st period. But the Rangers comes back with a show from Benn (2 goals, assist) and Kane (1 goal, 2 assists) in the 2nd. Unfortunately, Indiana scores 1 in the 2nd and another in the 3rd and the Rangers do nothing else.

FINAL 5-3 Indiana
In a losing efforst the Rangers get Star 1 – Benn, and Star 3 Kane.
Toews from Indiana gets Star 2 with 1 goal and 2 assists.

Weekly Summary:
New Jersey win 2-1 at Bathgate in the Rangers only home game. Rangers then fall 5-3 at Indiana.

Second City Chiefs
Weekly Preview:
Three home games and a road game against an ownerless team makes for a busy week for the Chiefs.
Game #1:

Chiefs take on New Jersey and control this one from the opening faceoff. The Chiefs get two goals in the first from Atkinson (9) and Palmieri (10) and one in the early part of the 2nd from Panarin (9) to take a 3-0 lead.Grizzlies get one back on Weber’s sixth of the year to make it 3-1 after 40 minutes.

Home team gets the next two from MacKinnon (8) and Panarin (10) again to take a 5-1 lead. A late NJ goal by Johansen (4) is not enough. Chiefs win it 5-2. Panarin with two goals and an assist bring his point total to 42 for the season.

Game #2: Second City on the road at Indiana. Chiefs take the lead in the 2nd period on a Shayne Gostisbehere blast (7) from Tavares and Panarin.Later in the 2nd it is the home team Indiana getting goals on back-to-back shots from Foligno (5) and Jagr (10) to lead 2-1 after two periods.

Sycamores extend the lead to 3-1 early in the third on a goal from Cammalleri (7).

Chiefs get one back with about 3:30 left when Palmieri nets his 11th of the year from Tavares. Then with the empty net and the extra attacker on it is the Breadman
Artemi Panarin scoring with 4 seconds left to tie the game and send it to overtime.

No one is able to score in overtime so we head to a shoot out.

In the shoot out Panarin and Atkinson score for Second City while Anderson stops the first two shots for Indiana and the Chiefs win it and pick up the extra point.

Game #3: Chiefs host Alamo at the Wigwam for what turns out to be a very good game.Home team grabs the lead in the first on Atkinson’s 10th of the season from Letang and Landeskog. But Alamo ties it up less than two minutes later when Seguin (11) scores.

With one second left in the first Letang beats the buzzer for his 8th of the year from Gostisbehere and Laich.

Late in the 2nd Almo would tie it up again on Max Pacioretty’s 13th goal of the year.

Still tied deep into the third when Shayne Gostisbehere gets a short handed goal, his 8th of the year, from Karlsson and Lewis to give the Chiefs the 3-2 lead. They would hold that lead and win their third of the week.

Game #4:

Fourth game of the week for Second City and their third home game in the friendly confines of the Westside Wigwam. This one was never in doubt. The Chiefs score four times in the first period to chase the starter Dubnyk from the game. Karlsson (3), Gostisbehere (9), Atkinson (11), and Letang (9) on the goals.

The lone goal in the second period belonged to Panarin for Second City, his 12th of the season.

Lansing spoils the shutout when Backstrom nets his 11th of the year. Panarin adds one late for good measure to make it a 6-1 drubbing.

Weekly Summary:
Second City wins all four games this week and climbs to a season high mark of three games over .500. For now they make a big move in the Central division standings, up to 38 points. After a rocky start Denis Savard’s club seems to be figuring things out a little bit. For the time being Chief linemates Artemi Panarin (46) and John Tavares (40) lead the league in scoring.

Brentwood Bandits
Weekly Preview:
Brentwood has two home games and one away game this week. Due to familial obligations, the recaps might not be up to my normal standards, but I will get back at it next week!

Game #3:

The 2nd ranked team in the league, California, comes to The Hallow as the favorite in this contest. Brentwood had other ideas. After Spurgeon (5) scores in the first to make it  1-0 California, they wouldn’t lead again in this game as Malkin (14) and Richardson (1) SH made it 2-1. Zibanejad (8) tied it at 2 but Brentwood would score 3 unanswered PP goals as California couldn’t stay out of the box!Crosby (17) PP, Parenteau (12) PP, Fleischmann (4) PP

Hampton Blizzard
Weekly Preview:
Getting spoiled by the schedule swinging back to us with three home games as Hampton hosts Columbus (14-17-1), Wasau (19-10-2) and Chicago (14-16-2). It should be an interesting homestand given the Hampton has had trouble in the past with both Columbus and Chicago and Wasau being one of the top teams in the league.
Game #1: Columbus’s Couture and Kucherov scored two unanswered goals in the 2nd and 3rd periods, but unfortunately they were preceded by four Hampton goals as the Blizzard sent the Brew Jackets to a 4-2 defeat. Tomas Hertl put Hampton on the board just two minutes in the game sliding a puck underneath sprawled Columbus netminder Cam Crawford during a scrum in the crease.
Mike Ribeiro, who was shifted to the top line alongside Paul Stastny and the underachieving Filip Forsberg, paid dividends on the move with a blast from the faceoff circle a could of minutes later that put Hampton ahead 2-0.
Aaron Ekblad made it 3-0 with a wrister from about 20 feet out that beat Crawford stickside early in the 2nd and then Hampton closed out its offense for the game with Hertl’s 2nd goal of the game on the tail end of a Blizzard power play.
Columbus shooters peppered Hampton goalie Brian Elliott with 17 shots in the 3rd with only Kucherov beating him with his 13th of the season on a nifty give-and-go with Rick Nash and JT Miller.
Game #2: Mike Smith’s sloppy netminding early in the game spelled Hampton to a 3-0 lead by the 13-minute mark and they hung on to win 5-2 over Wasau. The game was shaping up as a rout as the Blizzard scored on three of their first six shots on Smith (Killorn, Burakovsky, and McGinn), but Smith was solid the rest of the way allowing just two goals on the next 31 shots.
Zucker’s goal for Wasau with five minutes left in the opening period brought the Lumberjacks within two, but that was as close as they would get with Hampton’s Shaw and Ekblad drawing blood in the 2nd period and countering the lone Wasau goal by Palat on a blistering slapshot from the point that Blizzard goalie Linus Ullmark had no chance on.
Game #3: The final game of the homestand opened as predicted with the Chicago team beating the Blizzard up pretty badly without getting sent to the penalty box.
Peter Stastny counted the lone goal in the 1st period with a backhander from the slot past Cosa Nostra’s Condon, but then it was hammertime and the rest of the period as well as the 2nd period basically featured Hampton players trying not to get crushed by the much more physical Chicago team.
The physical play continued to be somewhat of a two-edged sword for Chicago as their bashing led to three 2nd period power plays for Hampton, but the visitors’ penalty killing teams were equal to the task and kept the puck out of the net.
Badly bruised and bloody with a slim one-goal lead and Chicago knocking at the door the team brought out the lavender-scented sweat towels to calm the players’ jittery nerves as they headed out for the final frame.Never underestimate the soothing effects of lavender.
Just 2 minutes into the 3rd Hampton’s premier bully-basher and pain in the ass Andrew Shaw dodged a check along the boards and fed a saucer pass cross ice to Mikael Backlund who banked it in off Condon to give Hampton a bit of breathing room at 2-0. It took only 15 seconds to give them even more breathing room when Forsberg raced in from the point off the center ice faceoff to fire the puck through Condon’s legs and suddenly make it 3-0.
Was Chicago worried?  – Hardly.
It took only a minute for Chicago to cut the lead to two on Kreider’s blast from the point that nailed the crossbar and caromed in off Elliott. Jokinen drew them within one before the halfway point in the 3rd on a rebound off Copp’s wrist shot from the slot that Elliott could not control.
A mad flurry of action in the final couple of minutes of the game saw Chicago come close to scoring several times including a shot off the goalpost by Nichuskkin, but Vincent Trocheck put the game away for Hampton when he cleared the puck off the glass and into the empty Cosa Nostra goal to end the game 4-2.
Hampton wound up outshooting Chicago 48-28 in the game so kudos to Condon for standing on his head for much of the game.
Weekly Summary:
Hampton gets the sweep to move to 23-8-4 and still has managed to avoid having anyone appear in the top 25 in scoring.

Long Beach Ice Dogs
Game #1:
Long Beach (17-13-0-2) hosts Bathgate (12-17-0-3). Bathgate opened the scoring in the 1st period when Zaiac deflected in a Karlsson shot. Long Beach tied it on a Kadri PP  goal with 3 minutes left in the period. Bathgate took another lead on a Lupul PP goal in the 2nd but Long Beach tied it :18 later when Lindholm tipped in Purcell’s shot. Draisaitl gave Long Beach their first lead of the game with 10  minutes left and Fabbri added an insurance goal to make the final 4-2.
Game #2:
Long Beach (18-13-0-2) hosts Ripon (15-13-0-3). Roussel scored a SH goal at 17:46 of the first period and Talbot made it stand up. He stopped all 27 shots in the Long Beach 1-0 win.
Weekly Summary:
Long Beach won both home games

New Jersey Grizzlies
Weekly Preview:
Scott Stevens wanted to get his team ready so he skated them hard at practice and will look to get back on their winning ways.
Game #1: New Jersey is set to take on the Sycamores from Indiana in a division matchup. Brandon Davidson got the Sycamores rolling early in the first period from Thomas Raffl and David Krejci. After 1 the Sycamores lead 1-0 and look to carry the momentum into the 2nd period, New Jersey needs to hit the net and Coach Stevens was very adamant about in the intermission. Shea Weber with his blistering slapper tied the game and gave New Jersey some life in the 2nd period. With momentum and the Pru Center rocking it was Jaromir Jagr giving Indiana a late goal in 2nd and the lead. In a period dominated by big defenseman blasts and great puck control, New Jersey still trails 2-1. In the third after working diligently to get back Miikka Salomaki was able to break free and hit the net on a breakway to even the game at 2. With less the 2 minutes that Defensive bomb squad member Victor Hedman gave New Jersey the lead 3-2. There you have it New Jersey was able to squeeze out 3-2 victory despite the ups and downs they were able to put together for the win.1st-Miikka Salomaki 2nd Shea Weber
3rd Victor Hedman
Game #2: In our second Matchup of the year the Grizzlies play host to the Alamo Defenders. New Jersey won the first game by a score of 5-2. Keith Kinkaid will oppose Thomas Greiss. Well after a sesaw of the first it was Jannick Hansen opening the scoring giving Alamo the lead. In a short time after it was Kyle Okposo getting NJ intot he game and tying it up. Late in period 1 t Victor Hedman netted his 2nd goal in two games and has given New Jersey a lead going into the first intermission. New Jersey leads after one but again they were plagued with a slow start. In the third it was Joe Thornton doing what he does best. He netted his 6th of the season and tied the game. Tyler Seguin scored his 11th and gave Alamo the lead. New Jersey has been in the spot in recent games. What will coach Stevens do? As always he tells the team “SHOOT” and it seemed Victor Hedman has been listening. He scorched another goal in the game and got the game tied again. So after a tight lst few minutes we are off to OT. Well after a not so exciting OT it was New Jersey scoring on 3 shots and Kinkaid stopping 1 in OT giving New Jersey the Win 4-3.1st-Victor Hedman 2nd Joe Thornton 3rd Dustin Byfuglien
Weekly Summary:
So far we have wins on the week so last week hopefully was a snafu.

Minneapolis Deep Freeze
Weekly Preview:
Minneapolis only has one game at home this week, when the high scoring Brentwood Bandits come to visit The Pond.
Game #1: Brentwood (2) @ Minneapolis (4)

Minneapolis opens the game with a flurry of chances against Marc-Andre Fleury, and breaks through early when Loui Eriksson (14) got around John-Michael Liles and makes another move to beat the Bandit goaltender to take an early 1-0 lead. With 6 minutes to go in the first and Hainsey in the box for hooking, Datsyuk wins the draw straight back to Dan Boyle (6) who fires a rocket past Fleury to give the Deep Freeze a 2-0 lead.

The score stayed the same until 7 minutes into the 2nd period when Datsyuk (3) redirected a shot from Markov to extend the Minneapolis lead to 3. The Bandits’ pair of Crosby and Malkin would generate pressure on several shifts but Cam Ward was there every time and the period would come to a close with Minneapolis holding on to the 3-0 lead.

The 3rd period would be physical with 2 sets of coincidental roughing penalties as Brentwood tries to get back in the game, but their aggressiveness would backfire when Doan and Huberdeau got loose for a 2-on-1 break and Doan (7) buried it to give Minneapolis the 4-0 lead with 5:37 left to play. Brentwood coach Tom Atkins was not happy to be trailing by so much, and lit into his team before the ensuing faceoff. Only 25 seconds after the Deep Freeze goal, the Bandits would get one of their own with Marleau feeding Malkin (13) to break the shutout. Brentwood would keep Minneapolis on their heels and eventually draw a hooking call against Andre Markov. With their top defender in the box, the Deep Freeze struggled on the penalty kill and eventually gave up a powerplay goal to Marleau (11) with 20 seconds left in the penalty and 2:10 left in the game. Minneapolis’ lead has been cut to 4-2.

The Bandits would pull the goalie but fail to get any more offensive production, and Minneapolis holds on to to win 4-2.

Bathgate Rangers
Weekly Preview:
Seems Bathgate needs some more whoppin’ up on and they host Jagr on Dec 15th to accomplish that feat. Jagr is leading the division with solid offense and the league’s best defense. Just what the Rangers needs.
Game #1: How do you start a whoppin’? How about a goal by Pavelski at the 1:55 mark of period 1, followed by another goal (Cullen) at the 2:47 mark. Yup 3 minutes in and down 2. By the time the ice was fully shaved at the end of period 1 it was 3-0 – Janmark scores as well.2nd period – Hagelin scores to make it 4-0, and the Rangers are just seeing way too many Mullets. It took the Mullets 5 penalties before the Rangers could score – but Zajac gets a PP goal at 11:12 to cut the deficit to 4-1. – Short lived, Abdelkader scores a minute later to stretch that lead back to 4. That was it for the Mullets — they actually fail to score in the 3rd. Kane scores in the 3rd for the Rangers – 1 of their 2 bright spots this season (assisted by Benn – there other fleeting glimpse of sunshine). But down 5-2, they can’t get any closer.
Power Play futility – Rangers go 1 for 6, Mullets 0 for 5, that’s 1 for 11!
STARS of the game (all Mullets)
1. Abdelkader 1 G, 3 PTs
2. Hagelin 1 G
3. Janmark 1 G
Stall (Jagr’s) wins 15 faceoffs, Bishop 32 saves for the notables.
Weekly Summary:
Jagr 5 Bathgate 2 – so it was a dismal week for the Rangers as they continue to live down to the preseason predication. Crowd however is very supportive (for now anyway). Although it looked something was being strung up in the cheap seats (we have cheap seats?).
