Hampton Blizzard
Weekly Preview:
Hampton has a home and away week in this short week hosting the Lakeland Flying Tigers.
Game #1: LAKELAND at HAMPTON
Goaltenders should have been given flak jackets prior to this game as between the two teams the netminders saw a total of 120 shots whizzing at them in the game.
When the barrage had subsided it turned out that Hampton landed 40 shots on net while Lakeland had 32 with the black and blue defencemen and puck stained boards taking the rest.
The Blizzard struck twice on the same line shift within the first five minutes with Andre Burakovsky and Jamie McGinn potting goals. That was it for the scoring in the hectic 1st period that saw Hampton outshoot
Lakeland 18-13.
The 2nd period was the period of the power play. Hampton jumped to a 4-0 lead on power play markers by Burakovsky (his 2nd of the game) followed by Forsberg.
Mr. Ladd, esquire of Lakeland narrowed the margin to three goals with a power play tally of his own to end the 2nd period at 4-1 for Hampton. The wheels fell of the Jonathan Quick bus in the 3rd period with Tyler Myers (power play), McGinn (with his 2nd) and Andrej Sekera each scoring for Hampton to end the game at a very unclose 7-1.
A bummer letdown for the Lakeland team as apart from faceoffs (of which the lost 2/3) and goaltending the team played a very solid end to end game.
Linus Ullmark posted the win for HamptonScoring summary:
First Period
1. HAM, Burakovsky 11 (Hertl, McGinn) 3:58
2. HAM, McGinn 11 (Hertl) 4:37
Second Period
3. HAM, Burkovsky 12 (Hornqvist) 1:40 (PPG)
4. HAM, Forsberg 13 (Ekblad, Stastny) 14:29 (PPG)
5. LAK, Ladd 13 (Seabrook) 18:14 (PPG)
Third Period
6. HAM, Myers 6 (Ekholm, Hornqvist) 2:23 (PPG)
7. HAM, McGinn 12 (Hertl, Burakovsky) 17:42
8. HAM, Sekera 4 (Killorn, Backlund) 18:32

A close game resulting in an unclose result thanks to some uncharacteristically bad goaltending by Jonathan Quick leads to a Hampton win in this shortened week.

Second City Chiefs
Weekly Preview:
Two home games in the abbreviated week for the Chiefs.
Game #1: First is a key division battle as Second City takes on first place Minneapolis at the Wigwam.

First Period- Lots of shot attempts but both teams blocking shots well and the Chiefs struggled to hit the net early. Midway through the period the home team gets a 3-2 break and it’s Brooks Laich lighting the lamp for his second of the season to make it 1-0 SCC.

2nd Period- Minneapolis ties it a little before the halfway point of regulation on a blast from Patrick Sharp (8).  Five minutes later the Chiefs retake the lead as Palmieri re-directs a Letang slapper past Neuvirth for his 12th of the season. The lead is short lived as the Freeze get an odd man rush off a turnover at the Chief blue line and Sedin puts one past Rask to tie it at two.

3rd Period- The third period was crazy. Freeze take the lead less than two minutes in on Eriksson’s 16th of the year. Chiefs tie it up on the power play with about six and a half to go on Landeskog’s eighth and then take the lead about a minute later. Freeze tie it with about 2 mins left and win it 20 seconds later as the Chiefs lose about 20 faceoffs in the last five minutes. Brutal loss for  Second City to the division leader and snaps their 8 game winning streak.

Game #2: Another first place team comes to the Wigwam as California takes on the Chiefs.
Back and forth game. Second City scores first on MacKinnon’s 9th of the year. 1-0 SCC after one.
Cali ties it up in the 2nd on former Chief DiGiuseppe’s third of the season. 1-1 after two.
The Regulators mount up for the first two goals of the third from Ovechkin and Faulk to open up a 3-1 lead.
Chiefs come back with two quick goals from Hayes (7) and Tavares (19) to tie it late.
We go to overtime where the Regulators got a power play that carried over from the end of regulation and capitalize as Komorov gets the winner. 4-3 California in OT.
Weekly Summary:
Chiefs drop two at home for the first time in a while, but at least salvage a point against California. Tough week after getting back into the thick of things with their winning streak before that.

Brentwood Bandits
Weekly Preview:
One game for Brentwood this week. New winger Nino Niederreiter and defenseman Dion Phaneuf make their Brentwood debut
Game #1: Malkin sitting with an unspecified injury (stupid game limits! lol).

Ekblad (11) makes it 1-0 Hampton early on the PP with assists by Forsberg (10) and Stastny (27)

5 minutes later Brentwood ties it up on the PP with Ekman-Larsson (13) firing a slapper from the point assisted by Fiddler (6) and Marleau (11).

Unfortunately for Brentwood, that was all Hampton goaltender Elliot was going to allow on the day.

Goals by Hornqvist (6), McGinn (11), Forsberg (13) and another by McGinn (12) would make the final score Hampton 5, Brentwood 1.

Star 1 – Forseberg 1G, 3A
Star 2 – McGinn 2G
Star 3 – Elliot 37 saves

Weekly Summary:  Geno Malkin sitting out the game is nothing new. Coach Tom Atkins said “We will be sitting him throughout the rest of the season to make sure he is in top shape for the playoffs.”
A reporter asked “But what if you don’t even make the playoffs?” Atkins laughed as he replied “We are making moves that will give us a better chance at doing just that.”
“Care to elaborate?”
Atkins stared at the reporter a moment before saying “Next question…” There are rumors that Henrik Lundqvist may have played his final game as a Bandit. More on that story, as it develops.

Bathgate Rangers
Weekly Preview:
Rangers host 1 game this week as the Corktown Suds come to Madison Round Garden to see which team can be the worst …
Game #1: The game does not disappoint as the two teams combine for 10 goals with the Rangers getting the upper hand by netting 2 in each period. Kane starts it with his 19 early in the 1st but the Suds get a short-handed goal from Merrill (his 1st) 2 minutes later. Rangers get their 2nd of period on a PP goal from Lupul. As the 2nd period starts, the Suds quickly take the lead with goals at the 2 and 3 minute marks – Carter and Tarasenko. But Staal ties it up 14 seconds later and Gerbe gets a go ahead goal 38 seconds after that. BETWEEN the 2:02 mark and 3:59, 4 goals are scored (that’s a 1 minute and 57 second time span!).

Kane then gets his 2nd goal of the game early in the 3rd and then Hartnell and Karlsson trade goals to end the scoring.

Thunder Bay Nor’Westers
Weekly Preview:
Thunder Bay made a move to shore up their defense when the traded away Brendan Gallagher and picked up Adam Larsson. Hopefully this will be a turning point in the season.
Game #1:
Chicago (4) Thunder Bay (1) – Not the improved defense the Nor’Westers were hoping for. Chicago lead by Duclair’s two goals and the game winner by newly acquire Josh Bailey. Not much to say other than it was Larsson’s 1st game.
Game #2:
Thunder Bay (7) Brentwood (2) – Oh My God what a sorry game. It was painful to play. Brentwood took 10 penalties and never could get any cohesive play or line rotations. Thunder Bay rode the power plays to a 7-0 lead then coasted home with a 7-2 win. Saad scored his 15th of the season and Eberle, rumored to be on the block scored his 10th.
Weekly Summary:
Larsson average over 20 minutes in the 2 games. We are still barely playing .500 hockey and that still needs to change.
